Working the program to me is simple.  I make the choice to have a program in my life everyday.  I make the choice to turn over my life to my HP.  I make the choice to reach out in good times & in bad.  I make the choice to go to meetings, post on this board and visit the chat room.  Working the program is allowing the program to work through me.  I share ES&H and learn about myself.  I listen to others share and learn about myself.  I make the time for me to read, work the steps, & feel my feelings.  I have made this program part of my daily living and the rest just falls into place.

Great question.  If you have been to a F2F meeting, most will close with the Serenity prayer and every one I have been to the members add... "keep coming back, it works if you work it".

You can read a book, or listen at a meeting and not be working a program.  If you work hard to understand the readings, and listen with the intent of taking that information with you and applying it to your life... if you get a sponsor and work the steps, it's amazing what you learn about yourself.

To me working a program means using the recommended program theories and tools to try and change your life for the better.

This particular program has some built in tools to allow you to work it at your own pace though.  "Progress not Perfection", and "One day at a time" means you don't have to grade yourself and your success against anyone else.  And of course the best is "take what you like and leave the rest..."

Take care of you!

I agree with rtexas--it's applying the steps and the slogans and things we learn from here or our f2f meeting to our life.  It's learning to not be so codependent  and working on improving ourselves, being happy in life (not necessarily with life).  We all have ups and downs times when we want to "get" better and times when we get tired and want to sit and pout and whine, but I hope the longer I am in this program and work the steps, the stronger I will get and the more positive and proactive I will be about and to life--not reactive.

Just my thoughts,

Dawn
