Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome

Well, as recommended by Tiger2006 in my last post, I looked up PAWS which is something I've never heard of before in relation to alcoholism. I must say it was a little unnerving for me. It seems to me that one is a personality thing and the other is a nervous system thing (sorry. don't know how else to word that), both from alcoholism. Whatever, I see both in my A and I guess the only answer for those of us dealing with it is to keep on trying to detach. It was a recovery for A's site that I found information about PAWS on and it was directed to A's themselves. I can't imagine my A asking himself the questions they say to ask yourself. In fact, his concentration is so limited (a sympton), he wouldn't be able to sit down and read the thing from beginning to end much less understand it. It kinded deflated me for a while but I'm trying to keep a little sense of humor mostly for my own sake - like wearing a T-shirt that says "It must suck to be you" ( I wouldn't dare say that anywhere but here!). I am going to plunge into detachment now!........jaja

When my husband first went to rehab he gave me a copy of all the paperwork they gave him  He wanted me to read everything he was reading.  When I read about PAWS it scared me, I just kept thinking man when do they really get "over" the stuff.  I guess the answer is never really!  But when he came home I could look at his little tyrants and episodes and I'd say to myself--well he must me Pawin'.  In a way that comforted me too.  Strange huh?!

Good luck to you and your A!!!

Take care of you!

Dawn
