My first one on one with my sponser

OK...tomorrow morning is my first meeting with my sponser outside of a f2f Alanon meeting. I am not sure what to expect. She is very easy to talk to but I am not sure I should ask her questions about her personal life or am I suppose to just let her ask me questions about mine.
I don't know whether it will be awkward to have this meeting with her in a public place where others are drinking coffe and having breakfast. I really do not want other people knowing what we are discussing. Maybe we can find a little out of the way table to sit. I don't know....just feeling a little nervouse about it all.
I now know it is time for me to do the steps. I think I will read the first 3 steps in my pathway book and discuss them with her and what they mean to me.

Why can't I just let my HP lead me tomorrow?

Gail

Gail,

I'm sure you'll do fine with your f2f!  I was a bit apprehensive when I was meeting with my sponsor for the first time, but she was very personable and it went just fine.

She usually related her experiences with her AH with me, even some personal issues they were having.  My opinion is that a sponsee and their sponsor should be able to discuss anything without hesitation.  If you feel that your sponsor is open and up front with you, I think that you will be more open and up front with them, which will help in your recovery.  Just my opinion...

Let us know how it goes!

Kathi

Congratulations on being brave enough to take that leap on meeting with your sponsor to start working the steps!! - That is awesome.

I can understand that nervous & scary feeling - I felt it too - I'm sure that your HP will help you through it - Probably after a few minutes of small chit-chat with your sponsor you will begin to relax and feeling comfortable sharing as you work the steps - she will share her e,s, & h on her step work.  Your HP will probably send tons of love & acceptance through her visit with you.

But, remember you have choices - if for any reason you feel uncomfortable in the coffee shop, see someone you don't want to see at the restuarant or if you want to stop the sharing - you can say "can we take a break?", "can we go somewhere else?"

You have options - working the steps can push us a little out of our comfort zone, but not to where we are feeling unsafe.  I'm sure your sponsor will understand -

Take care of you - Remember to breathe - Just breathe - Easy Does it - Let your HP take care of you!!

Sending prayers & good thoughts your way,

Love & hugs,

Rita

Congratulations on your courage to start with a sponsor.  I have yet to find someone to start the work with in Alanon, though I worked with two sponsors in AA in my recovery.  It is a very scary thing at first, but HP DOES and will guide you through this.  HP speaks through others, and you will begin to feel so much better.

Also, you can suggest to meet somewhere else if you don't feel comfortable in a public setting.  There is always a chance you may get emotional and that would be uncomfortable.

Just know that if it was meant to be, it will be the most wonderful experience you will have.  You will learn so much about yourself.  If it is not the right person, you will know.

Good luck and prayers with your beginning of health and happiness!!!  You deserve it!!

Love, HeidiXXXX
