Speaker Meeting

Please keep me in your thoughts & prayers tonight - 6:00 (CST), as I will be sharing my story of recovery at my home group meeting, again.

The person that was suppose to share reschedule to December, so I'm filling in for him tonight.

It seems that my HP has been calling me to do this several times lately and I'm feeling like I need to share something new & exciting - instead of the same ole story.  That is what my head is telling me - but my heart tells me - my story is my story - The facts don't change - The newcomers (we have about 7 newcomers) haven't heard what happened before, how I got here and what has happened since.

I'm sure it is just a little case of the nerves - until Al-Anon I never was much of a public speaker - God pushing me beyond my comfort zone - He usually takes over about 2 - 3 minutes in the talk and everything is just fine!!

So, I'll ask for your prayers that I will listen to what God wants me to say so that the message of Hope can be given to these newcomers  - so that they can see that a crazy, powerless, courageless, no self-esteem girl - can become what He has made me today - a confident woman filled with serenity, love, sanity & most of all HOPE.

Thanks

Love & hugs to all,

Rita

My prayers are with you - thank you for speaking to newcomers.  This is such a program of hope and you will be able to pull something new out of your hat, I promise!!  If you're like me the words just begin to come out, no plans.  It is such a scary thing to speak at first, but when you realize how many people you can help it is a wonderful peace.  It sounds like you were a scared person before and you have grown to be loving of yourself and confident.  I wish I could hear your speech!!!

Thank you for your service work and have a good time tonite!!!

Love,

HeidiXXXX

Rita...good luck on speaking tonight. I know you will not have a problem. You speak so well in your posts.

I so hope that one day I can be a speaker at a meeting and talk without a quivering voice and crying uncontrollable. I hope to give newcomers son ESH that may help them move on in their life like I have gotten from so many Alanoners.

I love "Speaker Meetings"...I am going to attend some AA speaker meetings.

Love ya Rita...Gail

So grateful to be able to give back some of the wonderful things that I have gotten on this path of recovery!!

(((Rita))),

I would have loved to hear your talk. Well done. I'm sure you helped those newcomers more than you realise.

I know your words have helped me on my journey.

Thank you for being you, and for being here for us.

You know, I don't think I have ever been to an Alanon speaker meeting. I have been to several "anniversary" type meetings when an AA and Alanon group had a combined meeting (usually with food) and the speaker was AA, Alanon, or both. But never to a regular Alanon speaker meeting. I guess they are far less common than in AA.

It's also a regional thing too. On the west coast of the U.S. meetings are often a combined speaker/discussion (AA), in the midwest they are more likely one or the other but not combined. I've been to a few meetings in Canada and they seemed to favor speaker meetings.

I have been the "featured speaker" at AA meetings - I remember my first time, my sponsor sprung it on me 5 minutes before the meeting started. Never for Alanon though. I'm not sure how I'd tell my Alanon story -- but I guess it's a lot like my AA story. Same life But the roots are deeper.

My regular Alanon f2f meetings are either regular discussion meetings or beginner meetings.
