Update on My Hand Pain

Thanks to all of you for all your good thoughts, prayers.  I went to Doc today, finally got in after about 2 months of severe pain.  Turns out I was right (I shoulda been a Doctor).  I have Trigger Thumb.  Funny name for a very painful disorder.

Do you KNOW how often and much you use your thumb?  OMG.  I have learned to type using my index finger instead of my thumb.  I do a lot of backspacing.

Anyway, I got a shot.  A big shot.  In the base of my thumb.  That may fix it.  As he explained, it is like getting a knot on a fishing line, and that prevents it from sliding easily thru the eyelet on the fishing pole.  The knot on the tendon catches on the sheath in my thumb and hurts like HE%%!!!!  It almost brings me to my knees when it does that.

I hate to whine, but this pain is making me really grouchy!  I cry at the drop of a hat.  I like to paint, do crafts, cook, clean  (well, not really clean, but someone's gotta do it.)  And the pain makes all of the above difficult if not downright impossible.  I even have to turn the key to my car with my left hand.  Frustrating.

I do assembly work, use electric screwdrivers, etc. Working 10 or more hours a day. Cannot afford to be off work.  Hopefully this fixes me.  I go back in 5 weeks, for maybe another shot, if needed.  If that doesn't work, maybe have surgery.  I hope not.  That is one more problem I don't need right now.

Thanks again.

Yours in Cry-Baby Recovery,

Becky1

Becky,

I'm sorry for your pain. I too had a had injury. Just a word of advice I hope you filed a accident report at work and are getting your workman's comp benefits it's critical that the Dr. States this is work related so you can be paid for any missed work and injury compensation.

Good Luck.

Angie.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I, after much deliberation, decided not to go thru workman's comp.  I had dealt with them in the past, and it was not a pleasant experience.

I do have short term/long term disability benefits at work, so I would be paid some % of my pay should I have to be off work.  From what I understand, this is a very common thing, especially as we get older.  I am 52, I use my hands a LOT not just at work.  I just didn't feel it was all work related, and about 85% of the cases of trigger thumb are resolved with a cortisone injection, and I have health insurance.

Things at work are so shakey now, they are looking for any reason to get rid of people, and are doing it on  a daily basis, almost.  We don't have a union, the management can fabricate any reason for anyone's termination.  Believe me, they have, and do.  I've been there almost 20 years, and have seen it happen.  They can word the termination papers so everything is legal.  They do not owe me a job.  All they owe me is a safe work environment. For the most part, I like my job, except for management.  And believe me, if they can find the tiniest reason to get rid of people, they will.  We recently lost good people of long service due to "cutbacks".  That is bull.  They could have been returned to the production department.  The co. is hiring a lot of temps so they don't have to pay benefits.

So, I was caught between already hating workman's comp, to being afraid for my job.  So, I took a gamble.  Hmmmm, seems like I've done that before!

Thanks for the info.

Love in Recovery,

Becky1

Hi Becky, seems like you're caught between a rock and a hard place.    Glad you got the cortisone shot if it helps you.  :)

One day at a time, right?

I understand what you are saying I lost my job after I claimed comp. It was because I could no longer do data entry.  I hate comp to.  it was crazy but I did recover some money.  Good luck.
