A Test

I always knew this day would come...After 5 glorious weeks of responsible drinking by my AH he disappeared for 6 hours last night....not so bad compared to others but heartbreaking for me...I so enjoyed the last few weeks..it was so relaxing to have him home on time ..like a huge weight had  been taken off my shoulders..it was heaven...well it wasn't going to last so that is why I continued to go to F2F meetings twice a week...now the real test...can I apply the program when he is back to his old ways...one way I am appplying the program is not to project how far he will slip...but I don't want to be a fool either...trying also not to negate all the good of these past weeks...problem is I have gotten alittle taste of heaven...never realized how unhappy this situation has left me all these 32 years...how can I settle for less...do I want to settle for less....thanks for this site for letting me share

It's progress not perfection in this program.  For me the only way to progress is to practice, practice, practice.  It's like anything else that's new, we don't do it so well early on but we make progress .... and it shows.

I would try to say over an over, THINK before you act/react.  Sometimes I'd even have to get up and get a little distance between me and the A.  Waiting for him to come home gives a lot of time to stew and prepare to act (attack?) so I'd spend a good bit of that time doing something physical to keep my mind busy.

Try to keep in mind that this is a disease, it is progressive.  If you haven't had the opportunity to go to and open AA speaker meeting it may be something to consider.  Though I'll never understand this disease, it did help me to understand some of what my A was actually going thru.
