doing something for someone less fortunate

In alanon it is suggested that we all do something for someone and not tell them.

Michael's Craft Stores (in USA) are running their afghans for charity program again.

All they ask participants to do is knit or crochet a rectangles 7" by 9"  and drop them off

at a Michael's craft store and they have a group of people that attach them and create the afghans.

These afghans are given to shelters, fire & police departments, etc.

They don't care about the colors, just need to be washable.

I've been doing this for the last couple years...find it gives my hands something to do while watching tv, worrying, etc.  It also is very relaxing.

gratifully yours

Alot of the women I've noticed do that at meetings--it keeps their hands busy while they listen. Like stopping the hamster wheel so they can actually run it for a change (instead of the hamster, you understand )

I love the idea!!! I crochet and sew... but my focus has been on the neonatal units... I have tons of scrap yarn that I now can put to good use.... thanks

Frog, thanks for the heads-up.   I used to do that for an organization called Warmup America.    Is lots of fun, and certainly worthwhile.   Our local yarn shop also does this project.

Meanwhile, I have gotten into making quilts for needy folks, and the fun and satisfaction is greater than the gift itself.   We know they are appreciated, so that helps.   I especially like making colorful quilts for children...we (our group) donates them periodically to such places as Ronald McDonald House and the local fire station, and many more local places.

Happy to have you as a fellow volunteer.
