Thinking about racing thoughts

In one of my meetings, someone mentioned their racing thoughts. A lot of people seemed to relate, me included.

In my effort to deal with my racing thoughts, I wonder why we even have them. Are these thoughts generally about what needs to get done? Are we always trying to solve our problems, now? I wonder if this is related to forcing solutions? Are these thoughts related to not trusting our HP – not Letting Go and Letting God?

Racing thoughts seem to get in the way of my serenity and meditation. Maybe if I understood why they occur, I could have some success in slowing them down – doing something with them.

Just wondering how other people deal with this problem.

Thanks,
Lana

I can only speak for myself, but when my thoughts run out of control, I find something to keep myself busy.  Doesn't have to be anything complicated.  Cut the grass. read a book, vacuum, or wash the car.

((((((((Lana)))))),

My husband suffers from "spinning thoughts".  It's one of the many reasons he drank.  It stopped his brain from going a thousand miles an hour.  Now with medication and counceling he has that under control.

When my brain won't settle down, I do something else.  Something challenging, like a really hard crossword puzzle.  The trick is not to get when I don't finish it!

Live strong,

Karilynn

I journal every morning. Do a tenth step.

I do an evening program too. Helps keep me regular spiritually.

I don't know what type of meditation you practice, there are so many, but what helps me a lot is a practice called Shambhala Buddhism meditation.  They have centers everywhere and give free meditation classes, and you are free to join in meditation sessions they have throughout the week.  With practice, you can slow down your mind considerably and be a whole lot calmer and relaxed throughout the day.  I do think that it should be practiced on a daily basis, though, which I still have a hard time sticking to !!!

Good luck and love, I know how uncomfortable racing thoughts and spinning constantly is so horrible.

Love, HeidiXXXX
