i'm new to alanon

hi all, i am the mom to a 19 year old who is struggling in his recovery from alcohol and drugs. i've been attending naranon meetings and they have helped alot. i would like to find a new group that focuses more on the traditions and steps. i was thinking of trying a alanon meeting but i wasn't sure if i would belong because of his drug addiction. please be honest, you won't hurt my feelings. thank you all for your kindness, s

HI

Welcome of course you belong.  Most of the people here are alcohol and drugs.  For some reason they seem to go together.  I think it is great that you are here.  My A's mother still thinks he doesn't have a problem.  Read the post you will see you are not alone.  There are many moms on the board and many who have people strugglingwith more than one addiction.  Keep coming it helps.

Yes, you will be welcome at any meeting. It's a lot easier to find an alanon meeting than naranon, too. My husband's main addiction was to crack cocaine, but, you know what? It's all one big disease, and we've got a version of it too. Welcome.

Welcome to this group. My boyfriend is dually addicted and generally messed up.  He has a mental disorder too although he never talks about it I think its about time I did.

So I think you belong here. This is a great group of people. I have been here almost 10 months now.  This whole year has been a very very difficult one, living with any addict is very hard.  Nevertheless you will find a great resource here if you use it.

Aloha NJ!!  Call this home and stick around for 90 days or so.  Check in regularly and read the post.  Get to as many Al-Anon face to face meetings in your area as you can get to in the next 90 days and get as much literature as you can.  You earned your seat in the program so take it and relax.  Again you are not alone and if for some reason we get upset?   It's our problem not yours.  We of course have steps and traditions that keep up together both as individuals and as a family group.  If you follow them while we are following them then things will work out fine.

It was said that addiction is addiction and as long as we don't try to be too unique you will be welcomed always.

((((((hugs))))))  Keep coming back..

Of course u would be welcome, most young people are dualy addicted to day.   Al-Anon focuses on the alcohol but the feelings are the same and our reations are the same .  Since we don't talk about them anyway  we talk about ourselves I hope ufind a meeting for yourself

Welcome to our group of wonderful, caring people who understand exactly what you are going through.  My son is addicted to drugs and is in recovery, himself.  I am finding that my recovery is just as important as his is.  So, please take care of you and keep coming and please join us in the MIP room for chat, as well as meetings.  I hope to see you there, soon.

Hi Nj Mom,

My son too was 19 when we started on the road to recovery....from drugs and alcohol.  He is now 20, doing well and working full time.  He spent 35 days in an inpatient treatment facility, relapsed many times until he decided he was ready to get clean and sober.  He spent 3 months in a Teen Challenge program....a Christian program.  He is home now and doing well for the most part.  It has been a tough journey for our son and us as parents, but our faith in God has seen us through and we believe God has protected our son.  I wish he would have finished the year long Teen Challenge program, but we have seen that the 3 months he spent in the program has changed his life. There is much hope in this horrible disease, and I will be praying for you and your son.  God Bless You!
