In our books  (daily readers to be exact) ODAT-  COURAGE TO CHANGE - AND THE ADULT CHILDRENS  HOPE FOR TODAY.   go to the back of the books to the index under self esteem and self worth , read all the pages listed there as they directly deal with these issues. Find a page u can relate to , find the solution it offers and work it to the best of your ability. One day at a time. Keep commin back self esteem kinda creeps up on you in recovery , you don't even notice your getting it until u start to set and keep personal boundaries for your self and your relationships .  happy reading .  Louise

My mother in-law bought me "Co-dependent No More" two years ago this month.  It is an emotional journey.  The other book I use daily is "The Language of Letting Go" both by Melody Beaty....Good luck, be gentle with yourself.  Hugs Mary

The Al-Anon pamphlets themselves are great, as you learn to focus on yourself you become less co-dependent.  I looked at your profile & you don't say anything about who the A's are in your life...  if u grew up in a dysfunctional family, with an alcoholic or addicted or even emotionally unavailable parent 12 Steps for ACOA's ($11 new) would help you a lot to see where the convoluded, enmeshed feelings come from.  ACOA's & codies have many similarities (to say the least).

As marmare sd, Melodie Beaty has a lot of great books on codependence I have one cd, Stop Being Mean to Yourself she has another cd: Co-Dependent No More & I think many many more on the same subject.

I know e-bay sells books used for super cheap or even wandering around the library or a book store & let the ones that resonate jump out at you.

My fav al-anon pamphlets are A Merry Go Round Named Denial & A Guide for the Family of the Alcoholic as they both really delve into the dynamics of the enabler-addict relationship & how they manage to control the family.

There is alink you can buy the pamphlets for about $.30/piece or u can get them at an Al-Anon mtg, in the 'beginner's packet'  http://www.al-anon.org/publications.html.  (if you don't already have any literature).

If u want to private msg or have any other questions, feel free, just click on my name.

Good luck & remember YANA you are not alone.

Friends in recovery, -Kitty of Light
