Short bios

I liked Isabela's post so much, I thought it might be fun for those of us who wish to write a short biographical sketch of ourselves. I feel that I know so many of you, and would love to hear what you do, what you enjoy, what your interests are; the usual stuff. Not one word about the A. Anyone interested? I will if you will.

Good morning and best wishes to all, Diva

Good idea, I guess I'll post it hear since I rarely if ever get into chat.

My name is Shaun a.k.a. Twinmom. I'm 33 soon to be 34.  ( So far loving my 30's much more than my twenties).  I live in Florida and have been back in Florida for almost 14 years now.

This has to be the longest place I've lived.  Born in North Miami Beach, Fl. Raised through out South Florida and New Orleans.  I work as a Social Worker in the Child Protection Team.  I go over all the kids boo boo's and try to advocate for services, court, criminal etc.  I have been doing Child welfare work for 8 years now.  I'd say I love my job but the pay is minimal.  I have twin boys who are 3 years old.  They're awesome and the lights of my life.

My interests: The beach (of course), fishing, writing poetry, making goofy art projects, cooking, working in the yard or garden, spending time with family and friends, music (going to concerts), art museums, and traveling.  I plan on being that soccer mom that takes her kids to games, camping, fishing, whatever fun we can get by with. Last but not least I love recovery and being apart of Alanon Family Group.  Its been a great part of my life so far and I know it will continue to be.

Have a great day and weekend all,

Twinmom~

Good morning Diva and everyone!

Great idea!  I loved reading about Twinmom and learning about everyone here.

My name is Heidi.  I am 39 years old and live in Denver, Colorado.  I was born and raised here, and love it.  I don't think I could live anywhere else, though I love to travel.

My parents live here, but my brother lives in Suquamish, Washington (near Seattle) and my sister, her husband and my two nephews live in Bolivia.  I have visited there three times now.  Quite an eye-opening experience.  Don't know Spanish well but get along, with my sister's help!

I am a paralegal, and work downtown.  My interests are:  reading, traveling, music, singing, artwork, playing guitar, movies, meeting inspirational people.

Have a great weekend!

Love, HeidiXXX

I'm Gail!

I live in Parkton, Maryland. It is about 30 miles north of Baltimore. I am 53 years old. I am married to a wonderful man who just retired from Baltimore City Fire Dept. I have 2 sons, ages 30 and 35. I have 2 beautiful granddaughters, ages 3 and 5. I have a Japanese daughter in law that I just adore. They have been trying for awhile now to get pregnant. I hope it happens soon.

I work in a high rise apartment building in the accounting department. I collect rent, pay bills and a number of other things. I love my job.

I love to go to the beach and just lay in the sun and listen to the waves. I like being outdoors and my husband and I love "yard sales" and "flea markets". We want to start selling on ebay. I love to watch HGTV to get ideas about decorating in the house and in the yard. I love spending time with my granddaughters. I have turned a large part of my yard into a park for them. It is called "Nana's Park". It has all kinds of equipment for the girls to enjoy. Hubbby was talking about adding a real train to go around the whole park. That would be so much fun!

I also love Alanon. It is helping me to cope with things. (don't want to mention the you know what in this post) I just wish we could all get to meet in person.

Anyway, this was such a good idea. Thanks for creating it!

Hi all,

I prefer Do for now. I am overly employed, lol. I work two jobs always on the go it seems like, one I work in the real estate business, the other I talk too much on the phone.

I have a son 13. It has been the two of us since my son was a toddler. Ok things I like to do when I have spare time LOL, hmmmmm, watch movies, go out with the girls, sing, dance, go for walks, play video games, read books, go to my meetings, chat on the boards here, but one of my favorite things to do now is pamper me. Now I just need to be able to afford a maid to clean my house and I am all set. LOL

I have cats and fish and the neighbors rabbit that likes to play in my garden from time to time.

Looking to relocate soon. Just not sure where to just yet. So location will let you know when I make a choice on where. Always wanted to travel more. So I have decieded time for me to do some of the things I have always wanted to but was too scared to try.

Alanon has really helped me see things differently, see people differently. Taught me I have a voice and it is ok to use it but do it in a loving manner not a mean/angry one. Not to control or manipulate situations, because some situations are put in my path because my HP wants me to learn from them, not to bend them to what I want. But most importantly what I have learned about me is that I have flaws and its ok to have them. Just be happy with who I am inside and out and try to live one day at a time with the help of my HP. In the end my HP will take care of me. For me it is as simple as that.

Great Idea to do this, thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Friends, my name really is Jill. I live in Maryland between Baltimore and WashDC. I am a systems analyst. I like the job and colleagues, but I’m struggling with the commute.

You can find me on the beach on a good day. I should go there more often, now that I think about it.

I grew up in North Dakota and have lived on the West and now the East coast ever since I got out of high school.

I can’t determine if I prefer “Notorious” to “Casablanca”, but they’re both superb. Same with “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”.

I spend a lot of time and energy with my family (1/2 a continent away) and friends. I get a lot of charge from keeping in touch.

I sing in a church choir, and it brings me such calmness. It’s so rewarding.

When I started grad school many years ago, my mom told me to get a cleaning lady to free up my time. God bless her! I’ve been out of school for decades, but never let the cleaning lady go. I think I’d go without eating to avoid cleaning the house. If you saw me, you’d know what an extreme devotion that is.

Thanks Diva, it’s fun to see the other “bios”.     ---Jill

My name is Alexandra, but I am called Sandy. I was born in Dover, Delaware in 19....well, that's not important. I come from a ship building family. My great grandfather, John M. Clayton Moore, built the "Victory Chimes," a three-masted schooner which is commissioned still by Windjammer Cruises, and her likeness appears on the Maine quarter dollar. Look closely, and you can see her rounding a lighthouse cape. Great grandfather built many ships, but the "Chimes" is the most famous, and the only one, to my knowledge, that survives. My father played alto saxophone with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, was not on the airplane carring Mr. Miller and some other band members when it crashed, killing all aboard. Mom was a ballerina, lovely to look at, with the grace of a gazelle. I studied music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, eventually earning my PhD in music theory and composition. Have one sister who is a doctor in Winston-Salem, NC.

I love animals, and probably should have been a veterinarian. We have two dogs; a Boston Terrier named Baby, and a Jack Russell Terrier named Rusty. Two cockatiels, Maggie and Simba, and a lovely black and white cat, Sneakers.

We call San Antonio, TX home, where I own and operate an art glass business, handcrafting stained and etched glass windows and other pieces by commission only.

I am a Mah Jongg player of long standing. I could play every day if I could find a game!!! An ardent swimmer, I swim a mile each day as exercise. I am a health nut, adhere to a strictly regimented diet, and keep myself fit, healthy, and strong. I inherited the great sense of humor that seems to run on both sides of my family. I love ribald humor, and can tell a joke with the best of 'em!!

http://www.cr.nps.gov/Maritime/nhl/victory.htm...read about the "Victory Chimes here.

I know I keep editing this thing, but hey! This is fun!!

Good God, I forgot my two most precious "possessions!" I have two sons, both of whom live in Seattle. One is an architect, and the other is a radiological physicist (whatever that is...) They are among the world's greatest treasures; respectful and loving. They love their Mom, and to this day, they bring me unending joy.

OK, that's it. Done!

Diva,

Okay, here goes....I have one wife, two dogs, two cats, one stepdaughter(not at home) and my neice whom I raised for many years(also no longer at home).

I am basically a happy-go-lucky girl. My cup is definitely half-full. I love people, love diversity, adore my partner, love my pets and yard and it is my yard.
I work in mental health and truly enjoy what I do. I am privileged to be a part of people's recovery process. I am inspired daily by the strength that people possess.
I am definitely a feminist. Am neither a butch or a femme for those who need labels. I can drywall your house but I on the other hand pretty up real nice.
I am a huge Mickey Mouse fan...even have him tattoed on my leg. Don't ask...was one of my less sane moments!!

And now Miss Diva, enough about me.  Where is your short bio???

luv

I had to pause and ask myself if putting a bio up here is a good idea.  I will put an abbreviated one up.  I also live in Colorado but wish to not disclose where.  I am in my mid 40's but people tend to think of me at least 10 years younger.  I am the only one in my original family of origin who still lives here.  As a lot of people in chat are quite familar with, I work with my other half's family in their wholesale business.  A lot of stress there.  I have been with my male partner for about 15 years.  I have one cat who I am lucky to have since the condo we live in is also owned by my mother in law and she frowns on pets.  I have considered moving elsewhere but I don't know if I could.

Okay this IS fun. Lets see if I can get me right!

As you already know, my name really is David. I am 43 yrs old and I live in a mid sized town in Texas not so very far (about 85 miles) from the wonderful Ms Diva, so she is my neighbor!

I work for the state of Texas as an Engineering Specialist doing primarily roadway design. I have been doing this for 20 years now!! gulp!!! I really enjoy my job.

I am happily divorced (might as well be!!) for 17 months now after having been married 9yrs 9 months 5 days 10 hrs and 45 min.

I have two cats Norbert a big orange tabby and Oreo some kinda black and white kitty with a groucho marx mustache.

My hobbies include reading, writing, woodworking (like building model ships, when I can find the time) oh shoot all kinds of stuff! I like to take long walks in the evening for exercise and mind resets! I love old cars, and all kinds of music .... errrrrr ..... cepting for maybe most of that rap hip hop stuff...but maybe I am just to old to get it.

I think I am the most grateful for the circumstances of my life that allowed me to be guided by my HP to al-anon. I have found the keys to my universe here. Wonderful, wonderful friends and a family that loves me for who I really am. I have found in the rooms of al-anon a place where I can laugh, cry, bitch..whatever! but above all a place to learn and grow into the person that I know my God wants me to be.

Thanks Diva. And to all of you who have written about yourselves...it is wonderful to know a little more about my family..thanks to all of you too!

David

I am Mary, but I go as Mimi on this board.

I live in Wisconsin - been married for twenty-two years.  I grew up in northern Wisconsin and have since moved to the western part of the state.  I am passionate about Wisconsin - would never consider moving elsewhere.  I have two great kids - ages 16 and 10.  I am a teacher and have taught both sixth and fourth grades.  I currently teach fourth grade and enjoy it most days.

My interests are reading (I am a voracious reader), my perennial garden, outdoors, computers, the Packers, Badger football, and, most importantly, my kids.

Why am I "here"?  I am starting to come to the realization that my husband is an alcoholic.  He is in total denial - even denies he's been drinking when you can smell it on him.  Fortunately (there's always a silver lining) he does almost all of his heavy drinking on the weekends and never goes out to the bars.

I try to stay upbeat and has found this place a God-send!
