"Getting Them Sober"

I've just finished reading "Getting Them Sober" by Toby Rice Drews. I know it has been recommended on these postings, and will have been read by many members.

I found it very beneficial and thought provoking. It certainly gave me a better understanding of A oand of myself. I am in the early stage of my recovery and am learning every day.

I just thought I'd mention it, maybe some newer members would find it useful.

Best wishes,
AM

RE: "Getting Them Sober"

Thanks Annmarie,

One of my friends in the program sends out daily emails from that book and a few other recovery books - some of the quotes from "Getting them Sober" have been my favorites.

Thanks for sharing,

Rita

Thanks for posting that.... I try to recommend that book, particularly volume one, to almost every newcomer who is struggling with the overwhelming "why" questions....  Those books were emotional and sanity "lifesavers" for me...

Annmarie,

Thanks for posting about this.

I would like to add that people who maybe considered an "old timer" may find hiddend jewels in the book as well.

Yours in recovery,

It comes in several volumes. I read at least 4. SOme I bought and some I checked out at the public library. It's not an alanon book, but it certainly did help me understand why I neded alanon and how it works.  It's not a book that is alowed to be mentioned or read out of in a face to face meeting because it is not CAL.

I do agree...it certainly is worth a READ...all of them

I was urged early in Alanon, in the chatroom, to read this book.  Wow, what an eyeopener!  I have read all 4 volumes, some I found on Amazon for a very reasonable price.

I highly recommend the series, also.  There is also a website by the same name, I believe.  Toby is awesome!  She speaks right to my heart!  They are such simple books, really, you don't have to have a PHD to understand any of them.  At times I felt like she just reached out and gave me a big hug from the pages, and I wept with relief......here is my life situation, down in writing!  And I have choices!  Cool!

Happy reading!

Love in Recovery,

Becky1
