there is hope

Hi everyone,

I have not posted in awhile, been reading a lot and replying but had not posted myself.  I realized this morning as I was reading that I had not posted because so often in the past I only did so when I was feeling desperate, mixed up, angry, frustrated .... you all know the feelings, and lately I have not been feeling those things.  It came to me that the reason for that is Al-Anon and that this is just as important to post.

Things have been going well lately.  I am a much calmer person, I have tools when things get bumpy, and today they just stay bumpy, not rocky.  The small things that used to turn into tornadoes, more often than not because of the way I reacted, do not spin out of control.  It is absolutely amazing how much things can change.  My AH and I are both working programs.  Little by little things have been getting better.  WE are learning to appreciate things, including one another.  A kind word can go a long way.

I am blessed, there is hope!!!

Thank you all for the role you play in my recovery.  I know that things will not always be easy, but today I have hope.  Things do not have to be the way they were unless I let them.  I am responsible for my own serenity, my own happiness.

Taking it one day at a time,

Lynn

((((((((((((((((Lynn)))))))))))))),

Nice to see you again! I agree with you 150%.  There is always hope, we just gotta believe. I am not suggesting we look at the world through rose colored glasses.  This disease won't let us.  But I can't help but feeling through this dreaded disease that something good will come out of it.  We just have to work our programs.  Besides if we don't have hope, what's the point in recovering?

Glad things are going better for you and hubby.  Keep up the great work.

Live strong,

Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

You sound great hon.  I love the saying things get bumpy not rocky.  It is so true.  Keep up the good work and enjoy the summer :).

Lynn,

So happy to hear you and your husband are doing well working the program. It gives me much hope and inspiration.  My bf A is sober 4 months following rehab and we are following the advice of our sponsors and our relationship is on hold right now. Its a long story, I wont go into but I know its the right thing for both of us.

I agree its important to share the good times as well as the bad, we all need to be reminded of how much the program works if you work it!!!

Thanks so much, you made my morning!!

I agree its important to share our triumphs as well as our problems.  Without hearing about the wonderful miracles that are happening to people in Alanon because of Alanon it would be difficult to see any light at the end of the dark tunnel.  I'm happy for you that you and your A are working the steps together and taking it one day at a time.  Keep moving forward even through those bumps.  I can really relate to that right now in my life.  Big avalanche crisis are almost unbearable, rocky is managable, and bumpy is even more managable.  What's life without a few bumps along the way.   Take care.

Lynn, what a great post!!  Thank you!!  -- that posting is you working part of the al-anon program, sharing your experience, strenght and hope!!

You wrote: Things do not have to be the way they were unless I let them.  I am responsible for my own serenity, my own happiness. That really hit me. How empowering to know that a bad situation or relationship can change... I can change it and my sanity, my happiness, my peacefulness, my contentment are all my responsibility.  Al-anon gives me the tools to make the changes in behaviors, beliefs, attitudes so that things are different.

For me, my A and I are trying so hard to practice an "easier, softer way".  You are soooo right, a kind word or gesture does go a long way.  The sarcasm (which I really hate) is lessening as is the tension, we laugh more. and,  if we are sarcastic, we know it's a joke, not a cut or a criticism like it was before.  I'm actually starting to like my A hubbie again. It helps my children (7 1/2 yrs and 20 mos)-- they are calmer when we are calmer (that's a huge blessing!!)

Anyway, so glad things are going well for you and thank you for sharing!!!

hugs,

Lee Ann
