DH/DUI/1st time here.....

Hello all,

I don't know what to say except thank God that I have found you! And thank you for being here!

I have been struggling with this, and so few people know.  Our families do not all even know. For what purpose? I do not want to be condemned.  It affects so much of our families life, its not even funny.

I was starting to become friends with another mom, and she was saying, oh, I have to give you this website, its great, it shows everyone's history, like if they have a dui or a ticket etc(at this point, my mouth must have about dropped OFF my face, I really do not think she knew at this point, but the dui had been about 3 wks previous.)

IT was so scary to get the call, and not know if he was okay-the officer did not specify that and was questioning me on the phone-I thought-wow-is he even okay?

I just feel like it has hurt our family and our lives and I hope he has learned quite a bit from it.

Thank you for listening. Any advice is welcome.

Welcome!  I'm so glad you are here.  Isn't it wonderful to finally find a place that is safe and non-judgemental?  Many of us have tried to hide our A's drinking, to have the perfect outward appearance.  Eventually we wear out, and need relief.  You will not be condemned here.  The first thing to learn about this disease is the three C's, You didn't cause it, You can't control it, and You can't cure it.  It is not your fault.

Please keep coming back.  There is so much that you can learn here and wonderful people to offer you experience, strength and hope.  You are not alone.

Here are some things that have helped me since in the program.

  • Go face to face meeting & online meeting.
  • post on the board here on the site. I have gotten a lot of good feed back.

·        In this program u learn that u have choices. In Alanon we don’t give advice but only suggestions.

·        Set support system.  people do not judge. You need someone who can go for coffee on a bad day, or pick up a phone and call when in trouble. The support is what is important when you first this program.

  • Have a sponsor. Someone work one on one with you.

You don’t have to do this the minute u come to the program but I suggest that u do it when u can. It help.

Meeting schedule: meetings are in here and run approximately 90 minutes from: Monday-Friday, 9 am and 9 pm EST, Saturday: 10 am and 9 pm EST, Sunday: 10 am and 7 pm EST. Topics are selected by participants at meeting time. UK +5 hours, central -1 hour, mountain -2 hours, pacific -3 hours. Open chat all other times.
