scholarships for my daughter...

Ok, I just want to say HP works in wonderful, mysterious ways.  I know that, but having evidence of it just makes my day!

My daughter is going to college this fall.  When we filled out the admission application, I really had no idea if we could pay or not.  (We are currently having to pay for all the stuff related to my husband's dui's, jail, etc. and cannot afford anything else.)

As some of you may know, I'm involved in trying to get a child support increase from her dad.  Altho she's now graduated from high school, this child support issue has been going on since Nov. 2004, when I filed for the increase.  We have yet to go before the judge to get this resolved.  My ex owes over $9,000 in retroactive child support increase, but darn it if I will ever see it.  I had planned to pay for daughter's college with that.  Hmmm...

So, on to the scholarship stuff...

My daughter did receive a letter saying that she has qualified for a $3800 Tennessee Lottery Scholarship, which is going to pay for part of each semester for this coming school year.  At the last minute, I filled out an application for another scholarship, offered by a local foundation.  Just this morning, we got a letter saying she has been awarded a scholarship from them for $2000 for this school year ($1000 for each semester).  That's a total of $2900 in scholarships for each semester, and tuition (living at home) is right about $2500, not including books, which run about $200 - $500 per semester.  So for this year, college and books are going to be paid for!  Yipppeee!!

And we haven't yet received news as to whether she will receive academic scholarships from the college.  Who knows?

So blekkkcchhhhh on my ex and the court stuff for now.  LOL, like it will ever happen that it does make it to court.  But for now, I'm just happy that she is going to college and that I don't have to worry about how to pay for it.

Now, how to pay the back taxes to the IRS...?    Ok, I know that's asking a bit too much!!
