my first f2f meeting...

I did it!!

Last night I went to my first f2f meeting. It was great and felt good about myself after the meeting. It felt good to share abit aout myself and hear other people stories. The group I went to, deals with one step each week and last night was step 2. I am not famliar with how other groups work but I was hoping maybe some of you can tell me what the agenda is for the groups you attend.

I only wish it could have been longer than one hour. Everyone in the group was so nice last night. I also found out that thier is an AACOA meeting in my area on a differnet night so I might go to both for a while and see which one best suits me.

Thank you to everyone who told me to get to a f2f meeting!
I am so glad I finally went!!!!

Mike.

Congrats to you Mike,

Sounds like it was a great meeting - Step & Tradition meetings on my favorite - My second meeting was on Step 2 - I always say rather than restore me to sanity - introduce me to sanity - I don't think I ever had sanity in my life (lol)

My home group meets Mon, Wed & Fri - Mon is a Steps & Traditions study group, Wed & Fri are topic meetings - Monday night is my favorite night - Steps helps me learned how to change my thinking and the Traditions helped me learn how to deal with people.   But of course, I love Wed & Fri topic meetings also - last night our meeting was on Perfectionism - how we strived for it, and beat ourselves up for never achieving it - it was a great meeting!!

So glad you found a great group - sometimes I wish our group met every night instead of only 3 nights a week - some weeks I could use a meeting every day - but MIP helps with that!!

Going to that f2f is a great step in your recovery process - give yourself a big pat on the back - You deserve it,

Rita

((((((((((Mike)))))))))))),

So glad that you went to your first meeting and had a good meeting.

I think all meetings are a little different. In my area there are meetings Monday morning, Tuesday Night, Thursday Night, Friday Night, Saturday Night, and Sunday Morning. I normally attend Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each meeting had a certain topic each week. One week it is a tradition meeting, then the next week it is open topic, whoever chairs picks the topic. The next week it is step meeting, and the next week it is an open topic.

If we have newcomers at a meeting then we usually have one or two people share their story and then continue on with the scheduled topic.

Keep going back to the f2f meetings, they are great.

Yours in Recovery,

Mike,

That's great. When hubby is home I go to 3 meetings a week and then come here the other times for meetings. The meetings here are great, but there is just something about actully being able to physically be in the same room that helps me.

So happy for you! Glad it was a good experience.

The area I live has many face to face meetings, most are open topic, a couple are step meetings, which for me have been helpful as I am working my fourth step now.  Traditionally, meetings start with the serenity prayer followed by the daily readings from Courage to Change, One Day at a Time, and Hope for Today,  followed by the topic or step. I learn so much from listening to others share and some of my best friends I have met in Al Anon.  I am so grateful for Al Anon and the meetings.  I hope you will continue your meetings!   And yes, there are times, I wish we could sit for hours but I guess having a time limit is best...it  KEEPS ME COMING BACK so I can share with people who understand.

Hugs.
