a ring

Since I started with Alanon my marriage to an a has gotten alot better. He bought me a flag ring no special reason. When I start we were having yelling matchs, i was staying at my parents house when he started to act up. I was taught how to put myself forward i am not perfect and i had a disagree yesterday however i was able to calm myself donw instead of making a scene like i would of down.

I, too, have noticed that I don't react as quickly to stupid stuff, since I have started the al-anon program.  I now at least pause to take a few breaths, and find myself not getting sucked into all the pointless yelling and arguing.

Good luck, Genie

Hi nycbt,

I, too, have learned alot with the 12 step programs. Now that I have been back around the Amom and Adau since Hurricane Katrina, I have used it plenty. Of course I have slipped plenty too. I rely on 'Progress not Perfect' alot to help avoid beating myself up. After being away from their drama for 12 yrs, sometimes it difficult, like I've gotten nowhere. Then I have to look at that as Hey, I got used to some Serenity and my feelings are more vulnerable from learning to be myself those yrs and not dealing with their constant drama. So now I kinda see it as being able to see my progress and practice what I've learned again with them. And I get to see some things I haven't addressed with them. So there is some advances and I'm ok with that for the most part.At least when I am focused. Beings I have PTSD and OCD sometimes I get stuck in it and can't detach, so I have to walk or run away to avoid it, as sometimes I can't stop repeating myself.

So glad you shared this. Thanks and Keep on Keepin' on

((((((((((((((NY)))))))))))))))),

Alanon has definitely been better for all of my relationships.  It has taught me how to react to all sorts of situations.  I don't know where I would be today if I didn't find this program.

Hubby is now 30+ sober () and of course that helps.  I have found that going to some, not all of his AA meetings has taught me more about this disease. That helps me to react to certain things.  This time around I can honestly say that it's getting better, and I'm getting better at reacting or not reacting to certain things.

It's really true what they say: It works if you work, so work it, because you are so worth it!

Live strong,

Karilynn
