Update on Daughter in Rehab

Please keep us in your thoughts & prayers tomorrow (6/13), we just received a call from our daughter's rehab that tomorrow is family day and she has added my ah & I to her family list of people allowed to visit her.

This alone is a miracle.  As stated in my previous post, we had to stop contact as it was affecting our recovery (my h in AA & I in Al-Anon) and she was very, very angry about this boundary.

My boss is allowing me a day of vacation tomorrow and we will drive about an hour to the recovery center.  A little nervous about it.  About 3 yrs ago, when my h went into treatment, (I was not in recovery) I had practically no contact with him - maybe 2 visits to the center, 1 horrible visit with his counselor, I had not gotten past the anger stage.  So anyway, I am not sure if I should bring anything for her.  I would like to possibly bring her a roll of quarters for the coke & snack machine, or a pre-paid phone card to call to check on her children, but don't know if that is allowed or am I getting back into that "mothering" role - she is my step-daughter, but she has been in my life for the past 14 plus years.  And I just want to do what is HEALTHY for her recovery,

Any ES & H,

Rita

hi rita,

I hope the visit turns out well. She has put her hand out and that's a good thing. :)
How about a card that simply says "We're proud of you"?
I bet she would look at it a hundred times while she is there.

Good Luck
Christy

Hi Rita!  That's quite a step, that your daughter is inviting you to see her.  Just be there for her in whatever way you can, and show her that you love her and are proud of the choices she's making now.  And check with the staff about gifts--but I would say the gift of your being there with her is the best.  Try to let go of any further outcome at this point.  Good luck, and you'll all be in my prayers.

Rita,

I know tomorrow will be a big day for both you and your H, as well as your daughter.  It's so important that she knows that she has some family support.  And as for your recovery......how wonderful that you can use the tools you have learned in Alanon.  Hopefully tomorrow will be the beginning of some healing for all of you.  You are in my prayers!

Thinking of you,  Lexie

(((((((((Rita)))))))))),

You are in my prayers. Remember that you are not going alone. HP is with you.

When trying to figure out the healthy choice I examine my motives. That usually helps me.
