tricked

Just wanted to share this little story with you and how I handled it.  My eldest son went out tonight and I did also.  On my way home I noticed the police were doing random breath testing.  I texted my son to let him know in case one of his friends or himself was silly enough to drink and drive.  Well my son  replies with "A bit late Mum I am at police station". I sent back a message that said you should have asked me for a lift and his reply was sorry.  I then proceeded to ask him what the reading was.  He didn't reply again so I calmly thought oh well next message will be" can you pick me up" and I would have said NO - practise walking.  Now the old me would have been stressed to the hilt ringing up one of my friends to tell her how b...y stupid my son was etc.  I went and watched the tv and said to myself well - his action his consequences nothing you can do about it.   A few hours later my son walks in with a smile on his face and I said you are having a lend of me arent you?  I suppose you and your friends got a good laugh at that.  I am excellent bait if you are good at fishing because I bite everytime and my son knows that.  I saw the funny side of it and it was a huge relief I can tell you.  The best part is it is because of everyone here that I reacted in a positive way.  I am a massive control freak at times and could not have achieved my calmness without you guys.  For those of you who don't know my husband lost his licence about 8 months ago for dui.  (He now has it back).  So it could almost have been like father like son I guess.  I don't tell you often enough how much I appreciate being a part of this family.  You are all simply the best and thanks for the tutoring along the way.  Luv Leo xxx

What a great story and experience.  I was lucky enough to read it. As someone who regularly used to go "off" at times I have learned to stop and review before I hit the ignite switch.

Hi Leo

Good work! That is real progress not rising to the bait. You were aware of the situation, aware of your emotions and possible reactions and stepped back and let the natural consequences take place.

nicely done and thanks do much for sharing your growth
