Courage to Change May 31

Hello MIP!

In today's reading, the author shares that heroes of legend often have to embark on spiritual journeys and face great challenges in order to gain a great reward at the end. We are each the heroes of our own stories, and those of us in Al-Anon have embarked on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. Through working the program and with the help of our community, we discover hidden motives, secrets, buried memories, and unrecognized talents. We learn to overcome obstacles, such as the impact of alcoholism, and we take on a variety of character defects. Our HP guides us on the journey, but the steps we take must be our own.

Today's Reminder: Self-Knowledge is the path to personal freedom. The steps give me directions and help me to cope with anything I encounter along the way.

Today's Quote: "The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles...only be a spiritual journey...by which we arrive at the ground at our feet, and learn to be at home." Wendell Berry

------------------------------

One of the things I have enjoyed most about my Al-Anon program is the journey of self-discovery. I have often felt confused or disoriented, and not sure of a direction. Getting to know myself better helps me understand when my decisions are ruled by fear, how to trust myself and my talents, and how to make choices in a way that is more authentic for me. I'm thankful to have this program to guide me through my process.

Skorpi, thank you for your service and ESH on this great page, it's a classic.

This page reminds me that it's ok to feel fear, the path will present great challenges, and that is often a sign of growth and is an inescapable part of progress. The obstacle is the way...it is often the very thing we do not wish to, or that is most difficult for us, that we need to do to best help others.

Great reminder, great visual...grateful

Good Morning Everyone. Thank you Skorpi for your service/ESH and Paul for your share. Recently a member stated that their life was like the ultimate field trip guided by a loving HP. Reading that fired up my adventurous spirit! Experiencing life from a different perspective and more present point of view encourages me to live with less fear and more awe (another gem gleaned from a wise member). Grateful to have the steps that lead to the one solution to all my problems. Thank you all for contributing to my spiritual growth.

Thanks Skorpi for you service and all above ESH. I've often heard the saying, No pain, no gain. I always hated hearing it, but there seems to be some wisdom in it. As the reading said, some great challenges and hardships can lead us to growth (and recovery). Maybe that's why we have another saying, Make lemonade from lemons!

Good afternoon

I think what is helping me more than anything is this journey of self-discovery. It's something I haven't done my entire adult life because I have been so focused(obsessed) with everyone and everything else.

There's so much about myself I never realized, all the good, the bad and the ugly. Once I stop fighting against and denying all the bad and ugly it may not immediately change anything but it's a huge stepping stone towards growth. But so is all the good stuff too,I kinda like many things about myself that I have discovered.

They say what doesn't kill us makes us stronger but I think it makes us wiser.

Have a good day
