The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
In today's reading, the author shares a bit about how personal the Al-Anon program is. We are each invited to take what we like and leave the rest, which means that we are each able to apply Al-Anon principles to our unique situations, but we also have the benefit of community with people who share some of our problems and some of our experiences. Though listening to shared experience, strength, and hope, we learn ways in which individual members have applied the al-anon program to their unique situation.
Today's Reminder: Today I will speak for myself, secure in the fact that I am supported by a fellowship of men and women who "understand as perhaps few others can."
Today's Quote: "Our recovery is reflected in our ability to tell our own story-- not that of an alcoholic or another Al-Anon or Alateen member." Why Anonymity in Al-Anon?
------------------------
One of the things I appreciate about Al-Anon is that there isn't one prescribed way of doing things. Because of this, I had to get in touch with myself, my wants, needs, and desires, and chart a path for myself. My recovery from the effects of alcoholism is truly my own, and I am able to move as quickly or as slowly as I need. I can determine when I am ready to take the next step, and I determine what that next step is. Listening to others in the program and spending time with the readings helps me to think through my problems and what might work best for me.
I hope you make today a great day!

Thanks Skorpi for your service and all above ESH. "Take what you like and leave the rest" is one of the first things in program that I appreciated after hearing it the first time. It lets me be part of this group and also be an individual. I also find myself able to tell others what helps me without insisting they do things my way. It's important everyone decide for themselves how they want to live their own life. I spent years doing what others wanted me to do. Resigning from the doormat club has been one of my best decisions!
