Courage to Change January 11

Hello MIP!

In today's reading, the author shares about their new family - a family in which they are free to be themselves, a family where love isn't a point system, where the author is accepted for who they are and masking isn't needed. When the author faces a problem this second family empathizes, but leaves the decisions and actions up to the author. The new family does share their experience, strength and hope, and in these times, the author hears just what they needed to.

Todays Reminder:  When a loved ones alcoholism brought me to Al-Anon, I found a new, second family, a family that helped me discover the me that had been hidden for so long, a family that will always be there for me. Today I will enjoy having a place where I really belong.

Today's Quote: For me, alcoholism has proven to be a bittersweet legacybitter, because of the pain I suffered, and sweet, because if it werent for that pain, I wouldnt have searched for and found a better way of living. Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism

-------------------------

I like today's quote, because it reminds me of what a functional family looks like, and how to make the most of my program and the meetings I attend. I found that being my authentic self was easiest in Al-Anon meetings, and once I had a hang of that, it became easy at work. Once it was easy in meetings and at work, I was able to start being my authentic self at home as well. While I wouldn't wish alcoholism on anyone, My life has become richer from the friends I've made around the Al-Anon and AA tables, and my life is more full than I ever imagined possible.

Thank you Skorpi for your service and ESH. After reading this yesterday, I went on a journaling spree and reflected on why I value MIP/Al-Anon like family. I feel safe and have a sense of belonging just by being my authentic self. I identify with and relate to members. The unconditional support and freedom to share without fear of judgements have motivated me to open my mind/heart to change...for the better. The attractive parts of my personality have been resuscitated which has led to better relations with most people in and outside my family. By giving me guidance to take care of the little things one day at a time, my life has also become richer and fuller. I totally agree that this is what a functional family looks like . :)
