Todays reading is a focus on the importance of service and how that contributes to recovery. The writer sees tradition seven through a new perspective: every group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions always made the writer think of financial situations, but after some time he/she began to see more of the significance in each individuals contribution in other ways. We give time, thoughtful reflections, and our self esteem and worth is bolstered outside of meetings and in daily life because of that. Service to the group in a beneficial cycle: we contribute in meetings, which continue to support and maintain our well-being.
This reading got me thinking about our individual roles in society in general. What we are able to give to the society we live in will come back to us in the form of a society that is supportive and helps us to thrive. I remember in my first few appearances at meetings- all I could do was appear. I couldnt contribute anything (so I thought). My sponsor told me that one of the greatest things we can do for one another is bear witness. Just being part of the you are not alone statement is a contribution of great magnitude.
The Thought for the Day gives us: When I contribute my part to keep my meetings self-supporting, I contribute to my own recovery.
