My A fell while I wasn't here. A's face is swollen, scratched, including eye area, blue and purple. Was drinking involved? I asked and the answer was no. I'll never know the truth, but this is the worst facial bruise (s) I have ever seen in person. She went to the chiropractor and optometrist. She is walking very slowly and seems out of it. Is some of this drama? I'll never know that either. I've decided to go with compassion because it must hurt like hell and it's not going to go away quickly. The eye doc said maybe 3 wks. I know she drinks and lies--that's nothing new. This injury is really a mess (although it certainly could be worse). Has anyone had this experience with their A? How did you handle it? Will appreciate ESH.;
Yes - my ex did this in my presence though. He was at the point with combined smoking and drinking where he would start coughing and then not be able to breath when drinking then he would faint and this only happened when drinking. I also was an active alcoholic at the time. I had my share of what we called "drunk bumps" and some were worse than others. Once I tipped backwards in a chair drunk and hit my head on a coffee table on the way down and went to the doctor for that with worries about a concussion and I got Vicodin and drank while on it...sigh.
Anyhow, in this instance with my ex - he fainted/passed out and hit his face on the corner of the bar we were at. He fractured his orbital bone and refused to go with paramedics when the ambulance came. Later he did go to the doctor - he had a vicious black eye/swollen shut and bruising all down the face.
So....basically, I will say injuries for alcoholics happen because 1. of passing out. 2. clumsiness while intoxicated, 3. other medical problems that are exacerbated or unattended to because of alcoholism (which was the case in this instance with my ex - I think later revealed he had diverticulitis or something but the combo of drinking and smoking and not seeing the doctor until things got really bad with this was the culprit).
