update on my weekend

Hi all,

Well, the HP works in strange ways. I had a restless night Friday thinking about my A and him not wanting to come for the weekend. About running my race and how my A and I use to do these things together. Well, I got up early, early and drove to the race. I was not feeling confident. As we warmed up I ran into many people I knew who wished me well. The comaraderie of the runners of all ages was uplifting. Once we started running all I could focus on really was running and finishing. I had planned in my mind to say the serenity prayer, the 12 steps, the 3 c's, the 3 get's, etc. to make the time pass. It was a challenge but I keep going. Focus on yourself  - no one can run this race for me. I passed many friends who cheered for me. And I thought isn't this like in Alanon, you can do so much with support. In the last three miles I found my second wind and I knew that I would finish strong. And I said to myself that this race is for me and only me.

As I crossed the finish line of my first 1/2 marathon I saw my AH of 32 years smiling at me. He gave me a hug and said you looked really strong. He said I changed my mind and I am going to go home with you for the weekend (cancelled his golf game). I was shocked. Anyway after the race I told him that I wanted to go to an AA meeting before we drove home (I missed the alanon meeting because of the race). He said that he would drop me off and do errands. I said why don't you just go with me. He said OK. He used to go to AA and quit going. It was a powerful meeting and they called on him to speak.

We have a had a good weekend together. No expectations. We talked to our son in the military and the 2 sons in college. Just for today! I need to remind myself. I am thankful for being able to complete my race. And for my AH for supporting me the best he can. Thank you all for your support.

Nancy

Thanks for share hope with us.  It is just like us al-anonners to know how everything is going to work out, when HP throws us a really nice curve ball.    What a great reminder that I can't fortell what my day might end up like and to really just get in the moment.  And to enjoy it, because there are things to enjoy.

Nancy,

Reminds me of the saying "this too shall pass" and good for you because you got busy and you get better when you are busy.

Way to go ~ what a difference a day makes!
