Todays reading talks about denial.  Denial about the disease of alcoholism and denial of our own participation and asks us "why?"

We are reminded that we alone cannot control or defeat the disease and therefore try to devise other methods to cope and one of

them is denial.

The reading goes on to say that Al-Anon gives us the tools and teachings to be able to deal better with those difficulties and

disappointments, especially when collective membership in a group setting help each other with their guidance and ESH.

The reminder for this reading advises to "forgive ourselves and count our blessings."

Quote:  "Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you cant build on it; its only good for wallowing in."

Learning about my denial and participation in the chaos of my environment living with an alcoholic, was key to finding my serenity!!

Working on detached with love, accepting that I did not cause, cannot cure or control and read the signs of the disease in the words

and actions of that alcoholic, that I find freedom from denial and hurt.

What does this reading mean for you?

Thanks Debbie!
I think it was the point where I decided to forgive myself and actively stop wallowing in shame that I really started to make progress. Before that, I wasted so much time and energy arguing with myself about whether I deserved serenity or happiness. So my key takeaway from this reading is to remember that all-important self-forgiveness. Thanks for the reminder and have a wonderful weekend!

Good evening.

I guess I was always in denial that I was a participant in all the madness and believed I was just a victim of circumstance. I do know and accept that fact now though and really try to do things differently.

That's the main thing I got from this reading, that I have been a participant and I need to forgive myself for the role i have played in all of this.
