Finding a Sponsor

Ive been in Al Anon a couple of years and want to work the steps with a sponsor. Ive related to several women on zoom meetings but for valid reasons they are not available/ready to sponsor. How can I find one that is ready and willing? Feeling discouraged and even more alone.

Welcome to MIP {{Notsonewbie}}!!

I a sorry that you are finding it so difficult to find a sponsor to work the 12 Steps of Al-Anon.

I would make myself available to help you, but am facing a surgery and 6 rounds of chemo starting

August 29th. I do know that as you work those steps you can post your questions and requests

for assistance here on MIP if you wish and maybe we can give some ESH as you negotiate those

steps/questions.

What does the MIP membership think???

{{{Debbie}}} OMG, love, light and prayers on your surgery and chemo. Please keep us/me posted on how you are doing.

I sent notsonewbie a private message.

Thank you {{{Lyne}}}, it is an on going issue with bladder cancer that started 11 years ago (inherited from my Dad).

Recurring polyps are coming fast and furious now, every quarter, so they have to come out again and now I need 6

chemo treatments. I'll be okay, just time consuming and a nuisance at this point. {{HUGS}} for asking/caring!!

Welcome Notso, glad you're here and thanks for the question.

For my journey and program, I didn't have a sponsor for much more than part of Step 5. A sponsor can be a solid resource, but the source of true spiritual growth are the Steps, Traditions and Concepts that guide us in our relationship with a higher power.

I worked heavily in the book Paths to Recovery: Alanon's Steps, Traditions, and Concepts and the Blueprint for Progress - Alanons Fourth Step Inventory, along with reading daily readers and meditation. With all of the fantastic guidance in the pages of Alanon, not having a sponsor does not need to hold you back.

If you continue your search, you will find a sponsor, but in the mean time I hope you have a chance to dig in to helpful guidance that is available to you now.

Keep up the good work, and keep coming back

DM, I am so sorry to hear of your health challenges, my heart and thoughts go out to you
