Today's C2C reading is a reminder that even though we might invest ourselves in recovery and seemingly see no results for long periods of time, moments of clarity, serenity and detachment can come seemingly out of the blue if we persist. They aren't "out of the blue" but in fact the culmination of faithfully working the program even when it feels fruitless. The reading is essentially a reminder to keep coming back and to have faith that we are making progress even when it isn't obvious to us. I'm sure we can all relate to this simple truth!
Thanks YKM for your service and all above ESH. It's true, that with consistent practice, alanon has settled into a part of my brain. When occasionally I have a really bad day, I wonder, where did all my tools go??? But usually in a very short amount of time, or maybe a day, program is just around the corner and kicks back in. Grateful member always.
Thanks for your service YKM and to all for their shares. So glad I chose to keep coming back even when solutions didn't seem evident. What continues to amaze me is how the Alanon program and it's tools can be utilized in so many life situations aside from the effects of alcoholism. Especially grateful to read this board and hear in f2f meetings how others are applying the program in their day to day life. The fellowship is one of my most valuable tools for utilizing the slogan Listen and Learn. I can't make recovery progress alone. I can also see how our CAL and it's suggestions also can be applied beyond the alcoholic situation. I'm so grateful to have found Alanon Years ago, I sometimes signed out of online Alanon meetings that were focused on Alanon's Traditions because I didn't realize they could be applied so successfully to situations outside of Alanon. I noted that others in the fellowship often said they loved the Alanon Traditions. Because I admired their recovery, I thought I might explore the Traditions a little more. I began to sign up at my f2f to give a meeting on one of Alanon's 12 Traditions. With time and research, my interest grew as did my respect for the Traditions. They've proven to be excellent guides in my life for for finding logical and fair solutions not only in my Alanon groups but for work and home life situations as well. So today like all the day before since my first one as a member of Alanon, I can still point the finger inward and say to myself "If you keep an open mind, you will find help." Grateful to be my higher power's work in progress and a lifelong learner in our program.
