the gentle program

I’m grateful that Al-Anon is a gentle program and that it provides suggestions rather than demands. Most of us have been way to hard on ourselves already. I ran across the following information in an Al-Anon conference approved literature and thought I would share it with you all. Take what you like and leave the rest.

Hello, Janoah,
Thank you for this post. I am glad you are here.
I have discovered in recovery, too, that gentleness with myself is something that I need to learn, over and over. Gentleness and acceptance, knowing I have done the best I can.
At the same time, I have also learned that it takes a lot of work, of awareness that comes through working the steps, telling my most private problems to a caring sponsor, and going to meetings, to develop this kind of gentleness with self. Also, as I have become gentler with myself, I have become gentler and more accepting of the rest of the people in my life.
I appreciate your post and your thoughts.
Thanks for being here.
Blessings to you,
mebjk

Hello Janoah,

Thank you for sharing these questions. In answering them I am reminded of the lingering and continuing reasons I came to Alanon. These gentle reminders help me stay focused on working the steps and on myself.

Jennifer
