The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Todays reading is about working through anger and the help that the 12 steps provide. The writer describes what she did in order to overcome her anger toward her mother. She decided to work through the steps and as is the practice in alanon, kept the focus on herself and the changes she could make within. By keeping the focus on herself rather than aimed at her mother, she was able to make changes and her anger associated with her mother began to dissipate.
This reading made me think about how one of the defects I work on is my instinct to hold onto a grudge or grievance. The 12 steps helped me to see my own part in situations that I was holding onto as personal grudges. It was a revelation to know that letting go of the anger was actually freeing and a way out of being mired down in negativity and resentment.
The thought for the day reminds us: The Twelve Steps provide ways to live a new and different life. They help me to know myself.
Thank you Mary for your service and to all whom have shared their personal experience.
I too, found the Paths to Recovery workbook to be way more important to my one of many 4th Steps's than I thought it would be when it was first recommended. In the end, I was really glad that I took my sponsor's advice to work through it. I am not sure if it was time in program, or the actual workbook, but that particular 4th Step really clicked for me (it was my 3rd (4th) Step!!
Taking it easy today. I had a nasty fall from a ladder a week ago today & couldn't afford to take the week off of work like the ER doc said... so the last week was challenging to say the least! But I made it through, and I am employing R.I.C.E. and TLC for these 2 days of rest. I have thanked my HP profusely that I wasn't hurt worse than what occurred. Take my advice, NEVER attempt ladder-work in the yard without a buddy!
Always Grateful For Something!
