Seeking Serenity

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

--Reinhold Niebuhr

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will direct your paths.

Proverbs 3, 5-6

This is why we come to MIP, it should be our SOUL purpose.  We come here to recover, to learn to live with addiction in our lives past or present.  It should be our main focus here at MIP, sure we like to have fun and be friends too, but we cannot let the newcomer get lost, because they are always the most important person in the room.  Let us put our own recovery aside for the moment and focus on the newcomer in crisis.  Our own every day complaints will still be there when the newcomer leaves and we can go back to our general chat amongst those we are familar with.

So I guess what I am saying is, it is all our jobs, not just the OPs, if you see a name you don't recongnize, introduce yourself, and ask if they would like to share.  Let's put the focus back on being a team and working together to help all who enter our doors, especially the newcomer!

Thanks (((Josey))))

We do have many newcomers and we all need to be reminded to offer a hand to them.
People that have been in Alanon only a week or two still have something to offer the newcomer and should be encouraged to do so.

Listen, relate, understanding, friendship, hope. No matter how long someone has been in Alanon they can offer those basics to a newbie.

Amen to that. After all, it does say "alanon chat". People come to alanon seeking help.
