ODAT in alanon, Monday, January 4th

For Monday, 1/4, Im beginning with the reminder:  My own way of thinking often deceives me.  I can see but a little way.  When I realize that people are learning to solve their problems in over 30,000 alanon groups all over the world, wouldnt I be punishing myself needlessly to reject this wonderful way of life?

Quote:  Sharing experiences widens ones horizons and opens out new and better ways to deal with difficulties.  There is no need to solve them alone.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Its an amazing thought to me that there are 30,000 alanon groups in the world!  I admit Im not good with phone calls, but my meetings, this board, texting and emailing members, all work for me.  And ESHto know that others have some of my problems from their alcoholics, and ask the same questions, and struggle with the same decisions, and suffer the same effectshelps me heal and grow and love myself.  This program works.  I wish I came to alanon many, many years ago, but instead of beating myself up, I will just say, better late than never!

Hello Lyne!!

Thank you for today's reading, your service and ESH!

I too am amazed at the number of Al-Anon groups in the world, what a wealth of knowledge.

I also feel that having the ESH of this group and the Al-Anon group in my town is very comforting because I do not
feel alone, like I did 7 years ago. The knowledge, tools and slogans are very dear to me and will always feel grateful to have them.
I was so psychologically beaten at the time I arrived on Al-Anon's & MIP's doorstep, do not want to ever go back to that state of
mind ever again!!

Thank you MIP and Al-Anon.

Thank you Lyne for your service and the Daily.

I too, feel comforted, Debb. It is nice to know that others truly understand the dynamics. One cannot truly know, unless there is experience... that is just one benefit of groups and this board!

Welcome, start of a new week! I am ready.

Thank you, Lyne, for your service and to all who have shared. It's such an amazing thing about Al-Anon that we truly are not alone. I remember attending the Assembly in my area, which covers half of a large state, and being amazed at how many people were there -- each person representing one group.

Although I came to Al-Anon for reasons I would not wish on anyone, it is wonderful to know that I can go almost anywhere and find people who understand, and who share a common language -- even if we speak different languages. Once I attended a Spanish-speaking meeting. I do not speak Spanish, but I felt totally welcomed and that I actually understood what they were saying.

Happy New Day, MIP friends!

Happy Monday evening all! Thank you Lyne for your service and the daily. Thanks to all above for your shares and ESH. I am not certain what it is within me - and I know I am not unique or alone - that thinks I can sit here and figure 'it' out with enough time, energy, smarts, whatever. Perhaps it's old habits - not entirely sure but I do know that each/every time I talk things out with another in recovery - sponsor, sponsee or trusted friend, I immediately feel relief! You would think that result would have me reach out sooner 'next time' - not always the case. I will own being stubborn and a slow learner at times.

I am so grateful for the program, the many groups, the structure, steps, traditions, tools, etc. I do NOT go to the deep despairing places I visited before recovery; today, I can get off that down elevator sooner, at times, when I choose to actually take the time to process, deal and heal. I also am so, so grateful that I am expected to be perfectly imperfect, making mistakes, and uncertain at times - that just helps me want to keep growing, changing, learning. I can't imagine a time when I no longer want to learn anything - I've always been willing & intrigued to learn new things.

It's a new year, a new week and a new day - and an attitude of gratitude for being a member of this program feels right. I hope everyone had a great day! We still have snow on the ground so I'm hibernating and working on projects around here. Love and light to all - (((Hugs))) too!

aww Today it is pouring down with rain. It is supposed to be our harvest season here but mother nature intervenes.

I have been to at least on meeting in four countries including here in NZ... they are have always been the strongest in the USA.

Hi Lyne, Debbs, Freetime, Iam and P. awwawwawwawwaww...

Six months ago I would have a lot of trouble remembering the names, and would have fumbled with a "y'all".

It is my fall-back when tired. biggrin ...

We have a couple of young people staying here. One a med student who pitched up harvesting and packing cherries.

Half of our migrant workforce somehow had to go home over Covid.

I feel so proud that we can all push through and keep our Alanon forum- not only functioning- but burgeoning in some ways-

through all of this... using our own god-given survival skills to make the best our of a deep harrowing situation.

For me- the way i see newcomers accepted and encouraged is proof of this.

"Let it begin with me."

"Let it begin with us."

  Thanks... aww ...
