C2C, 7/6, a way to change ourselves

The reading for Monday, 7/6, talks about that it is in giving that we receive.  Instead of questioning what life is giving us, we might benefit more by asking what we ourselves can give.  When we reach out to help others in a healthy way, we can move beyond our problems and create an opportunity to change our lives.  We may find that self-esteem can replace self-pity.  The reminder says that we can seek to be an instrument of the peace of God.

I like this reading because it gave me some good thoughts to think about, and I found it relaxing.  I sometimes feel a bit anxious before I lead a meeting, but afterwards I just feel good.  I know when I attend a meeting and someone else is leading, I can just settle into the meeting, listen, and there is no expectation about me at all.  Its a comfort just to be there.

I recently read a Buddhist quote that said, the more you give, the more you receive.  I like that.  I can give that a try, Lyne

Thank you Lyne for your service and the daily....since my mornings are consumed with golf during the pandemic, it's so nice to be able to see/read/consider the evening before! Gives me cause to pause before sleep and upon awakening.

What I love about recovery is that any effort I put out seems to generate an opportunity to grow and change. I was one who (Before Recovery) did grand gestures to 'help' others. What I realized in recovery is I did so with expectations of something in return. I no longer do anything for anyone expecting anything in return. I either am able to be of service and do so or I am not. All I know is anytime I am restless, irritable or discontent, I am able to change up my own attitude or thinking by some small, random act of kindness.

As this pandemic continues, I've either called or texted 20+ people per day. Since I check on those I care about often, it's not a huge time commitment! It makes me feel good to just reach out and say, "Checking in with you cuz you've been on my mind." I do this many times a day with a variety of folks, inside and outside the program.

I am grateful that who and what I value in my life today is so vastly different than before. I truly do believe in your quote - gratitude comes to me much more when I am giving/doing for another than when I am receiving! Love and light to you and all - find and keep your joy MIP family! I'll be @ the golf course in the morning!
