Just left the Boob Tube which I was watching with my spouse for a while and after doing the daily readings of our literature. We were watching one of our favorites which is the National Geographic series about the Artic, people; singles, doubles, family living a strict frontier like life in the cold cold cold with wild animals some of which they will have to kill and eat before they get killed and eaten themselves etc. What was interesting to me just before I stepped away was how they all have to have a serious workable program to do that and keep going day by day most always enjoying it and wanting to continue. I found similarities between the screen and what I was reading and living like.
My Hawaiian culture is a culture of metaphors and surely how I see and understand surviving and growing when life is not easy. Thanks also for your ESHs ((((hugs))))
Hey Brothers - the longer I live, the many more parallels I find between a program way of life and a peaceful way of life! It's just such a shame that a deadly, devastating, crippling disease like Alcoholism is what typically brings 'us' to recovery as it's been a profound way of living for me and countless others.
My biggest go to tools of the moment as I provide service to my parents battling this virus is acceptance, One Day at a Time and the Serenity Prayer! I have also been reminding myself that progress, not perfection is the goal daily and that norms are not at the moment as we are in the midst of a pandemic!
Love and light brother - I also enjoy the NG channel and many of the shows! Thanks for the share and the reminder that no matter who we are, where we are, and what's going on around us, our program and tools are as close as we want them to be. (((Hugs)))

Great topic Jerry and glad to see IAH on the board. We are all just trying to survive, no matter what our circumstances, we share that in common. Don't know where I would be without alanon,, but I don't have to think about it. I do have my program which gives me the strength and tools I need to carry on. Lyne
I love and watch that show too!! At first, I was mesmerized by the beauty of the land. Then I was impressed by the people's ingenuity and determination to live that life. I have always thought that I was born into the wrong time, and the wrong body!! I've often wondered-while watching that show- if I could do that. Survive and thrive in that environment. I guess by watching, I can live my fantasy life through them... without all the difficulties that come with living on the "frontier!"
I think that I have noticed the metaphors as well.
Lately, I have been visited by a huge flock of mourning doves. They are so unassuming and quiet little birds. They always make me think of the words you told me when I first posted here after moving into my little house next to the neighbor's dove aviary. I mentioned about hearing the doves' cooing all day. You told me the symbolism of the dove, and how birds factor into your culture and your WOL. Thank you again, Jerry. Your kindness touches me each day that I watch the birds that I feed!
Now that you are living on the mainland, are you feeding the birds in your area? Any new-to-you species?

(((PnP))) No I am not yet feeding my little brothers and sisters in this area because I am not informed about how they eat. I watch and listen which is how I educate myself and then I participate. It is important to me cause I really don't know how they feed and do not just assume anything or everything is okay. At home in Hilo they would come by the hundreds and they taught me a lot daily. I will learn. The Hawks here are different than those back home that would come, advance at my whistle and then remain at close quarters and communicate with me by behavior. They would circle above us sometimes high and other times near and fly thru our conversations or hover over me to offer direction. My belief about the I`o or Hawaiiian Hawk is that it is the kinolau or body form for God. It comes around often. The dove is the international metaphor for peace and HP has used it often too lead me into peace when I am forgetting. Thanks for commenting. (((((hugs)))))
