C2C 4/30/20 Takin' Care of Business

Thoughts and prayers with IAH as she is away caring for family...

While AlAnon teaches many great lessons on the value of patience and 'Live and Let Live', todays reading emphasizes the importance of addressing issues that won't take care of themselves or could lead to extensive damage if unaddressed.

The writer gratefully acknowledged how sharing at meetings helped shine the light of reality on the situation along with the need to take action.

Quote from Living with Sobriety:

"One of the most helpful aspects of the Al-Anon/Alateen fellowship is the opportunity we have to voice our dilemmas, confident that we won't be condemned for speaking frankly."
-----------------------

Today's reading brought to mind the incredible value of face to face meetings on the road to recovery when the focus remains on our Experience, Strength and Hope as intended rather than on the Alcoholic or in-depth replays of the perceived misdeeds of others.

ODAT (One Day at a Time in Alanon) pages 88, 329, 353 share great suggestions to help focus on discussing our challenges as they relate to program principles and solutions, helping us keep a positive, recovery focus.

These are great reminders for me to continue to look for ways to let it begin with me. So grateful for the direction and guidance of Alanon and the emphasis on keeping my thoughts and actions positive and focused on making a better life

Thank you Paul for your service. My thoughts for health and well-being continue to go out to Iamhere and her family!

My experience with sharing (no matter the venue) has been that it allows a perspective from "outside the source." It helps me to recognize what "Is," instead of my go-to, which is what I want it to be.
I tend to live in a fantasy world in my head... sharing my thoughts/plight/situation helps me to have a clearer picture, and in the end, accept "What is."

Thanks Paul for your service and for both shares. Currently I am dealing with my spouse being active again. For all the help we both have gotten separately and together with an addiction counselor, I am powerless over her lack of desire to welcome recovery.

So, I am fortunate enough to have my alanon fellowship both on this board and in person (zoom at the moment), which gives me tools, ESH, and a way to cope and manage myself without the throws of despair I used to be in. My sponsor taught me to stop trying to force solutions, and I have a much improved situation for me. This is not without disappointment and frustration, however I do my best to Let Go and Let God, Live and Let Live, and take ODAT. Lyne

aww Thanks Paul for our daily reading.

Care and prayer for IAm... and thanks for being here, P. and Lyne... smile ...

My journey is about "into action" and getting stuff done. Reading, thinking, and reflection are also verbs... doing words... ...and these are just as important, in my world. Sharing too.

Our local assembly needs a literature secretary. I don't fancy laying out a table so much, with dusty books. I would much rather talk about literature, at an assembly. I have always kept in touch with the latest editions and developments. And maybe talk with members- and arrange for shipments from the USA. The cost of postage here is horrendous.

In my first years- almost any member would rock up to an assembly- and participate. Today is is usually only group reps who meet with the district rep. Or at least it seems so. So taking a service role- and sharing at the regional meetings might encourage a wider participation.

I realise now that I am no longer a newcomer. I recall this years with pleasure and pride.

Thanks.

Thank you Paul! I truly appreciate that you are always willing to rise up and serve when I need help! I am in-between doctor calls for each parent - different issues, different doctors. In other words, short on time!

I will stop by when I have more time! Both are napping and I need a walk with HP for self-care.

Love and Light all - I made the drive, both parents are still here and we're doing life One Day at a Time.

(((Hugs)))
