SELF CARE INVENTORY_WEDNESDAY

Part of my program work is what did I do to take care of me today??

I didn't have to work for my ONE remaining job today, so I slept in

then I got up and did some yard work, weeds, mowing, just out in the sunshine, getting exercise to boot

played with my dogs,

went to sonic and pigged out on a large bag of fried onion rings and a hotdog

then went to see a friend of mine who gave me 2 small apple pies...I took them home and shared with roommate...they tasted good

the big thing I notice is that I did not PUSH myself..if I did not finish all the weeds??? Okaaaay I can come back another day....I did one thing at a time and was "with" the thing I was doing...I didn't do the BEST or pro looking job on lawn, but it is good enough...it looks nice enough...

So I guess part of taking care of me was doing things at leisurely pace...noticing things around me (birds, wildlife, if any, LIFE around me) I was not in a rush....the making me slow down and pay attention, tho I slip and mindless a lot of times, I notice that I CAN pay attention,  I CAN be aware of the right now moment...I saw that in my little tasks today...holed up with this virus,  I MADE a day for myself...I LIVED!!!!

So what did you all do for yourselves today????

I allowed my son to watch some movies while I read & made myself workout (its a huge part of my mental health). I read some great replies to my first post which really gave me some peace, & through that post another member guided me toward online meetings & I did my first zoom meeting .

Love self-care!!! It is so important, and in my experience is woven into every single step, and virtually every part of the alanon program. Thanks Rose for bringing this topic up. On one hand, it is easy to not comprehend how important self-care is, and on another hand, it's easy to not see how so much of self-care is incorporated into the alanon program. Going to face to face meetings? Self-care! Picking up the phone, calling a friend who "speaks" the language of alanon? Self-care! Doing my readings? Self-care!

Self-care can also be -- being gentle with yourself -- how and who you are being, with, in, and around yourself. I find that self-care as a core element of not just an emotion or a state of mind, but as part of recovery can be a vital key to success.

Thanks again Rose!!!

I'm not sure this really counts Rose, but a big chocolate cake was what I did for myself (also children and mother and neighbor relatives by proxy) day. I've been craving this cake for a month!

Thanks ((Rose)) for sharing your Wednesday. It sounds like you had a good Wednesday. Mine was a little more task oriented than enjoyment but it was overdue and necessary. I did make sure however that it wasn't all work and no play. Today, Thursday I will be able to spend more of the day with fun activities. Yay!

My Wednesday -

I watched the snow melt. Almost eight inches fell on Sunday. lol Still more interesting than watching paint dry.

I got up early and made zucchini bread because we were almost entirely out of groceries and not expecting a delivery until the evening. Yes, I was nice like you and shared it. biggrin Aside from it tasting delicious, the house smelled like a bakery all day.

I admitted a shame issue to the alcoholic in my life concerning financial management, told him that his related impatience triggered that shame and asked for consideration and understanding. I can ask for kindness as I continue to work through these feelings. As a result, I got my taxes done with the help of my recovering partner who has extensive experience. I'm grateful.

I made the necessary phone call concerning another financial document I'd put aside then forgotten. Some life issues happened and I totally spaced concerning it. It's going to submitted late but I've taken care of it now and there may be no consequences. If there are I will accept them. Lesson learned - It may be time to organize myself at home as well as I do in a workplace. I'm worth it.

I did online research of some things I can act on now to prepare for the lift in stay at home - when our "new normal" arrives wink

We worked together to get groceries delivered, wiped them down, unboxed things, disposed of packing materials and stored everything. This feels really weird but nonetheless necessary. Then lastly cleaned front doorknobs, frig door, counter and of course hands.

Got lost for awhile in the evening in a good biography which I've been really enjoying.

TT

I might have an issue with JUST joking!!! if ya enjoyed it??? it is self care, I indulged in sonic drive-in fried onion rings...now I know that is real "healthy" but it was fun, piling all that fried batter covering those tender onion rings, down my throat, hahahaha

If Sonic is self-care...go for it!!! LOL. A few friends of mine, ordered a custom-cake, one they knew I would really like...and had it delivered to me last week for my birthday. We got together on-line, via video/web, and we had a few drinks, dinner, and celebrated my birthday...and then I had a piece of the cake! LOL. Oh yes, self-care for sure!!! LOL.

On that note, I have to tell you...I stop in my office once a week. Everyone is working remotely, so there are only two or three people there, just for processing, mail, compliance reasons, etc. Anyway, I go in for 10-15 minutes just to drop off and pick up files. I also jump in the car and take a drive every couple of days. The roads are empty, LOL. Nice change of pace here in the most densely populated and largest county in NJ, LOL.

But...for the past month...every single time I pass this one place...the line of cars through the parking lot, filling the parking lot, and out onto Route 17 (which is a major highway here in NNJ) and down the shoulder...the line must be more than 40 cars long...and this place has a double drive-thru...I've never seen anything like it...guess what place it is...

Chic-fil-A!!!

LOL.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Rose! It was my friends' idea. Actually, the zoom/video thing offers a different dynamic, psychologically, and while you think you know what it's like, it ends up being different -- for me, better, more intimate, more satisfying, etc. So, I've attend hundreds of web meetings in my work career -- hundreds! It's common for me. I would say I've averaged one web meeting a week for the last 20 years.

However, do a web meeting with your friends...and it's a different dynamic!

I am very, very surprised at the Chic-fil-A thing!!! LOL. I mean, no offense, it still is "fast food" per se. LOL. Funny, I was shocked at this, but not at the fact we couldn't post specific information about online/zoom/video meetings (conference approved) here on this website! LOL.

hey Bo, I'm gonna try Don's burgher next...my neighbors say they make WICKED french fried onion rings and a burger to beat all....someone took a pic of their menu and put it on our next door web site and booooy I am gonna have me some fun visiting that place....
I am NOT normally into take out, as I am very clean, healthy eater who does her own cooking, but there are times I am just SICK of my own cooking.....and yea, I use zoom, hangouts, facetime.... they are fun, but really??? for me, fac2fac real like hugging distance is the best, but with virus, we gotta stay 6' apart unless you live with the person......this virus is a real learning curve....BE SAFE and WELL
