So on Monday March 23, 1998, Nancy and I had our first date. It started with us going for coffee at Tim Hortons and then to an open AA speaker meeting. Every year, as close to the date as we can get, we re-enact the evening. This year, the date fell on the same day of the week so we had planned to do it exactly the same way. Unfortunately, Corona came and brought with it lockdowns and shutdowns. We are not able to sit inside the coffee shop. The drive through is still open, but we don't own a vehicle at present, so the coffee portion of the date was not happening. As a consolation, I prepared a candlelight dinner. I knew it wouldn't be as good as coffee, but I tried.
The meetings around here are all shut down. There might have been an online zoom-video chat meeting but I didn't know of any. Instead, we listened to a speaker CD I picked up a few years ago. The lady's name was Mildred F. It was good.
The moral of the story: we could have focused on the negative aspects, how the universe was conspiring against us, trying to ruin our day. Or, we could have made the best of what we had. There are lots of things we just can't do right now. that might be what the serenity prayer talks about. Accepting the things we cannot change and changing the things we can.
One of the girls my wife sponsors celebrated a year sobriety a couple days ago. Her group birthday party is tuesday. The group does online video meetings and we're going to virtually present her with her medallion. I get to say a few words. I'll also be making virtual cookies. :) so, despite everything, God still performs little miracles.

A great share! Yes, things are changing... for now. The best part about your share for me, was that despite not being able to recreate that "magic moment," you were still sharing the love you two share!!

Congratulations on your anniversary Wolfie...all the best to you and Nancy, and your family.
Being that you asked -- if you are interested in a list of virtual/zoom meetings from Northern NJ and LA, CA -- send me a PM. I understand that many cities and towns across North America have gone "online" and are having zoom meetings, and they are publishing their "meeting lists" as well. I think they are simply posting "google docs" or something of the like, so you have to get the link from someone as you won't "find" the meeting list on an internet search. All the best!
