New Here

I have been surfing the topics here and doing a ton of reading. I really like the format of this group and thought maybe I should introduce myself a bit. I am a mom of 4 and a wife of 24 years to an alcoholic. I have been working the program on my own (there are not many meetings near my home) since 2016. My AH went through a white-knuckle dry spell from March of 2016 to January of 2019. This year he relapsed and it has been a struggle. He has tried to quit more times than I can count this year and had only been able to make it to the 3rd morning before drinking again. He is now on day 10 of being sober but I have no expectations for tomorrow.

I have developed some wonderful tools from the program and I find strength in each ESH share. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you as well.

Welcome, oddsunflower! I am so glad you found us and joined in. We all benefit from learning how people use the tools of the program.

oddsunflower - I send a warm welcome to you too! Glad you found us and glad that you shared....love to hear you're doing recovery as best you can, based on availability of meetings (or lack of)....So, so often, we suggest face-to-face meetings, and I hear often about a lack of local meetings. We all just do the best we can with what we have - eh?

Sorry to hear about your AH's relapse. I'm sending positive energy for your recovery and also his. My experience is I really, really, really have to focus on me and my recovery when this disease becomes active again in those I love who have it. It's so very hard to watch one I love in the downward spiral or the battle of denial/resistance.

I am glad you've been poking around and reading! We are a world-wide group that does our best to offer ESH to each other. If you look to the top left, you'll see an online meeting schedule and a link to the meeting room. If you look to the top right, you'll see a link to a Step Work board. I am a big believer in face to face meetings, but also hear the reality of availability. Online sources are a great next right thing for those in need.

Please keep coming back - you are not alone and there is hope and help in recovery!

Welcome...If there aren't many meetings where you live, food for thought...one, you can make a weekly "appointment" and go to one of the few meetings by your home. It can become something you look forward to. When there were few meetings where I lived, I drove 40 minutes to a meeting. When people found out, they offered me their phone number, they offered to talk to me during the week to support me, because I couldn't attend as many meetings as them, and overall offered me a lot of support. They also knew I was driving far, so many offered to meet me for coffee or dinner before the meeting to make it more worthwhile for me to attend, to not miss dinner, to have company, etc.

Second...go to Alanon World Services (WSO)...there are online meetings and phone-in/telephone meetings!!!

It works if you work it, so work it...you're worth it!!!

We do hold daily meeting in the char room and i suggest you try to attend. Living with this disease is indeed devastating.  we can use all the support available. My husband tried to recover many times before he succeeded. so there is hope.

Welcome, Oddsunflower!

Of course I wish you didn't have the need to seek this forum out, but that is your reality, so I am happy to meet you! You are among those who understand.
