The art of being overwhelmed

I just spent the last 30 minutes talking one of my co-workers off the ledge... LOL

It's good friday and lots of folks are out, he is responsable for distributing work to our group, and he had a PILE of last minute tasks sent to him for distribution.  Since most of the team is gone, he was panic stricken.

Instead of joining in his panic attack and ripping the other managers a new one for thier lack of planning... I told him that we will take the list, see who's available, see what's a priority and do the best we can.  Any complainers can call me.

Now... this all happened real quickly and totally ad-lib (came naturally).  When he took a deep breath and walked away satisfied, I had to laugh at myself.  My A had always been a high stress person and early in our marriage I did a lot of what just happened with her (and the kids).

The difference now, as I consider straight jackets and padded rooms on my Christmas list, is that the disease has taken that quality away from our partnership.  It was a good balance, she was high energy and got me motovated to try new things, and I kept things realistic.

Al-anon is starting giving me the ability to talk myself off the ledge again.

Kitty started the post "Let it begin with me", with you alls inspiration and support I can see that eventually it could really begin with me.  Someday!

Have I said thanks to ((((you all)))) lately!

Have a great day!

i can certainly relate to that overwhelming feeling at work, esp. last week when we had inspection and i had to redo a bunch of paperwork. anyway, i had the same idea, one thing at a time...that's all i can do, and it worked. it's kindof ironic that when we're feeling the crisis hitting and we need to get everything done yesterday, that that's the best time to slow down, take a deep breathe and get yourself together so that u can actually accomplish something other than stressing!

i love that this program is one day at a time, it works not only for dealing with alcoholism, but all aspects of life. thanks for your share (((rtexas))) and great job with letting it begin with you!

love in recovery, christine

Its been a busy busy week at work for me too. And will continue to be for a while, hoping I can get the project done in the next three months. My immediate boss needed some figures for a grant but was unable to get them. She started with us 2yrs ago but didnt realize the books were not being input the way they were at her old library. I not only need to go through all the childrens books and change their codes but through the books that were also input since she began. Ack! Well at least its a good time to do this job - my next vacation isnt until the end of June. Her next report will be due mid July (at least thats what I was informed) - hoping to have these new codes changed before I leave on vacation.

Now if I could just get her to stop rearranging the furniture in my office! I need to know where to find things
