Courage to Change 11/14

Good morning MIP.  The reading today discusses Step Six - where we become entirely ready to have God remove all of our defects of character.  The writer suggests the readiness didn't/doesn't come in a sudden, blinding flash of enlightenment but rather a little at a time as positive progress is made in recovery.

The writer suggests gratitude is an important part of their step work, suggesting the more thanks given for what 'is', the more healing and acceptance comes, allowing for change and growth.  By recognizing and cultivating our abilities, we are increasingly willing to let go of our defects.

The writer also suggests that Step 6 is a lesson in patience, as we see lie opening up before us in new directions, we finally become ready to have God remove all our defects of character.

Reminder:  "Progress, not perfection" applies to my readiness to let go of my defects, as well as to other parts of my Al-Anon program.  One day at a time, I make progress in readiness.

Thought:  "Step Six is my chance to cooperate with God.  My goal is to make myself ready to let go of my faults and let God take care of the rest."  from Alateen --- A day at a Time

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As one is great denial that "I" was part of the problem, I resisted changing me greatly upon arrival.  Al-Anon helped me truly inventory my assets and my defects, discovering that while I had a variety of instilled talents, I also had a variety of instilled habits or defect that truly hurt me way more than helped me!
I can readily say that patience has not ever been a natural asset of mine....I have always been an "I want what I want when I want it" kind of gal, and in a perpetual state of hurry.  I have made great progress in my recovery and can truly "stop and smell the roses" more than ever before.
I do find gratitude for who I am, where I am and my willingness to humbly grow and learn every day has improved my spiritual condition greatly.  When I embrace all that recovery offers with humility and openness, I am amazed at the many, many miracles in life.  I will always be grateful to have shed my previous notion of perfection, gratefully willing to replace it with progress as my goal.
Happy Thursday MIP family!  Make it a great day!
Thank you Iamhere for your service:   Oh yea, doing the #6 as we speak, in that I am letting go, willing/ready to LET GO of beliefs and behaviors that sabotage me financially or otherwise....and yes!!  gratitude to my HP for things I need but don't yet have, and things I do have already...gratitude makes for more gratitude, I believe...if I am in Grateful mode, I am more humble, open, willing  I needed to see this daily as I am in the midst of the step 6, changing my subconscious mind /cleansing it of beliefs and behaviours that block my good energy...I am doing EFT tapping as I do my gratitude for what is and what I don't yet have, but need..........
