Todays reading is about the power of......writing! The writer describes how freeing it is to get thoughts down on paper. It is a form of self reflection, a way to get to know ourselves better, a way to vent when things are difficult and celebrate when lifes moments are good.
I would add, personally, that writing is easier for me than speaking in most cases. I have found it a much more comfortable medium to articulate what is on my mind. It is often helpful to have a focus for writing (like the readings in our book), but my sponsor has also suggested working through the steps and slogans through writing, which has been a tangible and more thorough way for me to work the program.
When I first came to this site and to the alanon program, knowing that I could learn from others experiences through writing was a gentle way to do it. I know that when I feel unsettled or uneasy, putting my thoughts down on paper always helps me sort it out.
Good Morning Mary writing out my thoughts and feelings has truly helped me to see my defects in action i appreciate this form of communication.
Thanks for your service and honesty
Good morning MIP! Thank you Mary for your service and the daily. Thank you and Betty for your ESH and shares. I heard early on to ... Write About It, Talk About It and Pray About It. It did not have a ton of meaning to me in the moment but has served me really, really well. So many times, when I am able to put my thoughts down in black & white in front of my own eyes, I can more easily see my part, what I am powerless over as well as what I might change to return myself to my side of the street.
I am grateful for the many, many suggestions I've received in recovery. So many did not 'land' well at first delivery yet over time, most have become useful and great tools for my toolbox.
Happy Sunday to all - off to my weekly meeting, which I missed last week for my gal pal road trip. Got Football to watch later and it's our last day of moderate/nice weather for several days, if the weather folks are accurate! Make it a lovely day MIP family!

My mum taught me how to collect the male- which was a mile from the house. I had to count the letters at the letter box, and again when I got home- in case I lost one. I enjoyed this chore- it made me feel important. As I got older I got interested in getting letters- so I started to wrIte them to people. And then I got replies!
Never looked back really. Wrote teenage angst poems too- and I still do sometimes... ...
I was a very shy kid- so writing drew me out. Inside Alanon learned to express my feelings- and slowly branched out from there...

Today is armistice day. It celebrates the end go The Great War on this day, 101 years ago. My grand-dad recorded this day in his diary, after the battle of Le Quesnoy.
Today I am the flag boy down at the war memorial. I wear grand-dad's medal and take along his diary. So he was a writer too... and it got him through the war...
Sitting here with my coffee... my daily ritual. Even if I don't write something down in a post, I receive the benefits of reading the writings of others! I am grateful to all of you who have shared!
My sponsor also "made" me write out my Step 4 by working through a Step 4 workbook. It worked for me b/c in the physical process of writing things out, it slows me down and helps me to process better. Yes, I thought it was tedious at times! LOL! But then there were other times that real revelations occured! I type very quickly, so I do like this format... I can get my thoughts down quickly, review them, and then send it out to you all for feedback. Sometimes I end up seeing my follies by reading back things I have written in the past.
David - thank you for the glimpse into your childhood. Always interesting for me, as it was/is such a different WOL! I love hearing about modern people's connection to history! I can't believe that you are lucky to have an actual written account of 101 years ago! That is a family heirloom for sure! Serve well today, and know that your GG-Pa walks with you today in spirit and pride!
My NFL team doesn't play until Monday night... so maybe I'll get some stuff done today! LOL! We'll see - I seemed to have broken 2 toes tripping in the yard yesterday! So today it's kind of hard to walk!
But I do have a B-Day dinner tonight to look forward to: My father is turning 79!! He has been my rock through this whole process... I don't know what life would be like without him! I thank my HP each day that she keeps my dad on this planet!
It is in the 90's here. Not loving that so much! LOL! Where is my "Autumn?"
Make your Sunday a good one, MIP!
