Hope for Today Sept 8

Good morning everyone-

Todays reading is about the peacefulness that alanon can bring to our lives.  The writer describes having grown up in an alcoholic family, and then spending much of her adult life seeking out ways to fill the emotional void that it left on her.  She attempted to be the perfect wife, mother, community member, etc.  Some of us have turned to extremes with food or exercise. What I have noticed is that I used to be drawn to situations of chaos (just knowing I could be the one to sort them out!) and now I turn away from chaos and prefer peace.

The last paragraph of this page struck me:  a reminder that we are not here to try and control what other people do or say.  We can only work at making changes within ourselves, and continue to grow the best way we can.

As the writer discovered, I have found what I needed and what I was looking for in alanon.  I am grateful to be here with all of you.

I hope everyone enjoys a peaceful Sunday:)

Mary

Good morning Mary and thank you for your service and share.

I am so thankful that I kept coming back to Alanon even when I didn't think it was for me. It took a long time for me to understand how the program works. The more I showed up the more I came to understand. It does bring peacefulness and much more.

I grew up thinking that the more I do the more happiness it would bring... and the more perfectly I'd do it, even greater the reward.

It's a lifetime of "undoing" this concept. A mindful practice of letting go, and letting go as many times as it takes so that there aren't mountains between me and peacefulness.

I am grateful for our fellowship as we move through our life journey.

Good Morning Mary I am so pleased that i embraced the peace of this program when i first entered the rooms,. i can remember , thinking that 'serenity' sounded boring and i did not want it . Today I have changed and chaos sounds distracting. i thank God for alanon each day.
Thanks for your dedicated service

Good morning MIP! Thank you Mary for your service and the daily....thanks to all for the shares and ESH! I too was attracted to chaos/drama before recovery as I was the ultimate fixer. Today, I too step away from chaos/drama/controlling situations as I value my serenity and peace and self more! I too am grateful that I kept coming back, and found a God of my understanding who gives me exactly what I need when I need it!

Enjoy the day family - I am off to a meeting shortly and then watching some FOOTBALL - so glad the season has started!! (((Hugs)))

Good morning, MIP family! Thank you Mary for your service!

I love the peacefulness that Al-Anon brings to my life! What bud shared hit me hard!

"I grew up thinking that the more I do the more happiness it would bring... and the more perfectly I'd do it, even greater the reward."

Yup! That's me too!

A mindful practice of "letting go" for sure!! Today I am much keener to see and identify the chaos... so I can choose to let go of the rope... this leads to a return to peace in my head! Thank my HP!!

I am also happy that when we slip and maybe even land on our butts, the program and the friends associated with the program (whether online or F2F) are here to pick you up!

I too, am off to watch my football team - 12'S EVERYWHERE! Cooler here today, thank goodness!

THANK you Mary for this very needed to see by me post: for me it was social media, particularly facebook...filling the emotional void with cyber spacing and not "face to facing"...and oh yea, being drawn to chaos, crisis, omg..NOW I want ZERO to do with chaos and crisis..I want my peace adn I've really simpled down my life big time to have more simplicity and peace...Peace is paramount to me.....and I accept, I cannot control what others do or say, I can only control how I respond......Grateful for your service: Rosie
