Funny Friday

This has been an insane week, I can't remember the last time I was so busy between work and personal life all good just kind of crazy.

My youngest has made not only the Varsity Choir as a sophomore however he's made Jazz Choir as well .. yiippppeee ... this is sooo exciting because they only choose the top 10 in Varsity for this honor and so it's a BIG DEAL!!

He will be very busy, he's working as well as will have music lessons both singing and piano going forward.  I hope on the piano we are struggling to find a teacher and right now I'm not impressed with outdated list I'm working with .. lol.

My work has been program challenging.  I have days I love it and days I hate it .. I love the vision just not the journey.  I have been having a struggle with one of our independent contractors who believes that if they submit a bill on Wednesday they will be paid on Thursday.  Umm no .. there is more to the process than cutting a check.  So .. LOL .. 2 min as I'm cleaning up yesterday I get an email kind of one of those I'm coming by to get my check.  You know me being me they are lucky I didn't respond with let me know how that's working for you I won't be here .. I didn't .. I behaved and simply said I'm sorry your check will be ready in the morning.  They pushed and they are very pushy and demanding .. and they have never dealt with me so I tend to shove back.  Another response of why not and I simply said we were short check signers however I will make sure it's ready for you first thing in the morning.  I am leaving for the day now.  That was the end of my emailing and I'm sure they pitched a BIG fit.  I want to know where I can get paid in a 24 hour turn around and think I am due the money.  I have NEVER heard that and this is not a small dollar amount of a couple hundred we are looking at close to a couple grand.  They used to bill us for hours they hadn't even worked yet .. LOL.  So I had myself all fired up when I left and started fretting over my boss .. we have had a couple of close encounters and I really try to curb my thoughts and breathe .. I will admit I am defensive when someone outwardly attacks me I will attack back.  So I am trying to find a different approach to some of the ridiculous issues that come up.  This isn't my job, this part that happened .. I answered that email as a courtesy, not because I have any control over that situation.  At first I almost sounded the alarm and I thought nope .. if it's burning tomorrow I will handle it.  So first thing first I made sure that the check got signed and it was.  I waited and I will admit to holding my breath during the first hour of work I am still waiting for 3PM to see if I am called into the office .. I don't feel defensive .. I did what I said I would do.  They came in and got the check and I greeted them warmly with no big deal kind of attitude here you go and make sure to have a great weekend.  Outside of that I didn't say this however I'm thinking it .. don't call me at 358PM when I leave at 4PM and my ride is here .. this is not my stuff.  And we have always told ALL vendors .. we try to turn everything around quickly (less than 48 hours) however it's not a guaranteed things will be done in 24 hours.

I normally would have gone one of two ways with this situation .. over compensated and been angry that I went above and beyond and wasn't acknowledged for it or guns blazing and then I would have been in trouble for my attitude .. LOL.  So I am trying the path down the middle.  Nope not unreasonable, in the middle of not enabling and being reasonable.

It's just not always easy to find the middle ground.  I'm soooo ready to call it a day!!

S :)

smile congrats Seren... for your son's achievement... I love choirs too- and I am sure you will enjoy some superb performances...

It is Saturday  morning here- and i am sitting sharing with two grandkids on the couch! They play sesame street in the mornings!

It is an honest programme- and i just read the first para of your post. Will read the rest later in the morning when my thinking has woken up!

I used to feel so alone- even when I was with others- so engaging with the present- one day at a time- is a great gift. Alanon gave me a whole wide range of adult conversations- which was great learning for me- some fraught and heavy, and later, along the way- light and interesting ones... aww ...

...what a way to start the morning... !

Thanks. wink... smile ...

In my country we often embellish a speech or a talk, with a waiata, a song... part of our custom.

This song comes from a favourite part of the world, for me... smile ...

Well, I didn't read your post until Saturday morning.

HUGE congrats to your youngest son!!! My son played in both band & jazz band, so I know what a big tap that was to be chosen as a sophomore!!! Sounds like it will be a full school year come September!

As to your work... GOOD JOB, SERENITY!!

In my line of work, we have many people who push the boundaries of our turn-around time. One time, we actually had someone tell us, "Well! I guess those other patients are more important than me!" (spoken in the huffiest of tones - after we had told her a due date of the next day & explained how long it takes to make her medication & that we begin a list for the day & our list was full for the day by other patients who had called days earlier, we treat everyone equally, etc.). Of course we had to placate, but afterwards we all laughed about how she thought the world revolved around her! LOL!

Some people will always push for a mile when given an inch. We have people who will push in this way whenever they encounter a new employee! I have accepted that is just some people's MO's, and I need to be firm with the boundary they are trying to work around. LOL!  I think that you handled yourself extremely well...and your level of self-awareness is AWESOME!

The outcome is the contractor isn't used to being told no. They got their check. They didn't have to wait. I basically ignored what transpired the day before as they danced around lol. I didn't get my boss involved because it's unnecessary drama. I did decide if my boss asks me about it a simple response is best. And if it's pushed I'm sorry you feel that way is appropriate no defensiveness needed. PNP .. your story made me lol because my coworker who is retiring is totally like that sometimes I feel uncomfortable hearing those conversations lol. I shake my head a lot lol. I feel pretty good today so this is a good thing!! :)

EXACTLY!

He was acting out b/c he isn't used to be told "No," or having to wait. You did not bother your boss with something you could handle... and you did, brilliantly!
Enjoy this long weekend! Yipppeeeeeee!
