Courage to Change 3/7/19

Good morning MIP!  Today's reading is about making positive changes in recovery.  The author suggests that watching her son's silkworms helped her to see how transformations can be made from perceived negatives to positives.  Silkworms are fat and greedy creatures, yet out of their own substances, they create something beautiful.  There were born this way - having no control in the matter or outcome.

Working in recovery to change our self-defeating attitudes helps us become better human beings.  We are all born with beauty within and if we allow ourselves to grow and change, we can express our own beauty freely.  Al-Anon helps us do this and an attitude of gratitude, a cornerstone of our recovery helps bring loveliness into view.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I arrived at recovery with a negative outlook attitude, disposition.  Of course, I justified it - if you had my life, you'd also be miserable!!  When I became willing to set aside my ego and pride, blame and shame, lovely members suggested I consider opposites.  From the moment I woke up, it was suggested I do things differently.  Simple suggestions like changing the order of my routine, getting up on the other side of the bed, choosing a different breakfast, etc.  I had no clear idea why this mattered, but was in need of change so gave it a go.
What I discovered is that conscious changes in my routine reminded me each morning that I was a woman in recovery, wanting change in my life, and being aware of what I do and who I am mattered!  Adding small changes to how I think and what I do and when helped me stop obsessing over others and the disease, and to consider me, my actions, thoughts, patterns, etc.
Small changes for me led to more willingness and more changes.  Daily gratitude lists and daily readings helped me morph my negative mind and reminded me I am never alone and help/support is always available if/when I reach out.  I am grateful for the changes in me and look forward to the continued growth my HP has planned.
Happy Thursday all - we are to have warmer temperatures today - YAY!!!  I've been working on the golf leagues for the year and am excited for spring to arrive.  My day started with forgetting to put the coffee pot back on the maker, and the entire pot going all over the counter, floor, between the fridge and cabinets, etc.  A WAY different start to my day than desired or planned yet I found gratitude in cleaning behind my fridge - on my list for March!!!  Make it a great day all...
Thank you Iamhere for your service and the daily. What a great reminder!
I too, am working on changing my self-defeating attitudes. I am going through some "growing pains" lately, so I am utilizing my Gratitude Lists and I am trying to look at EVERYTHING with an Attitude of Gratitude!
Peace!
Thanks for your service IAH. The reading and your share are such an important part of recovery. I used to dwell on the negatives about myself and situations for days, hours, and years. What a waste of precious time. But it wasn't until program that I was taught such magnificent tools that I see I do have choices, even about the way I feel. With practice, help, and HP, I can turn things around. I appreciate it so much, Lyne
Thank you IAH for today's message.  So sorry about the coffee pot, but you were able to be grateful for it in the long run!
Baby steps of changes is how I see my recovery.  Whether it is a change of attitude or response or behavior.....I feel myself moving forward in the program.
Happy Thursday to all!
Ellen
