This is a day at a time life we have.

I have been feeling kind of disconnected lately from my higher power- kind of wondering where it was, did he desert me? Along those lines. Three years ago I had a bout with cancer. I was frightened. I really relied on HP to get me through. Amazingly enough (or maybe not so) I got what I needed and got through this difficult time in my life. I guess where I am going with this is that I know my spiritual life, my connection, reliance on God is a day at a time thing. I CANNOT RELY ON YESTERDAYS RECOVERY. I need to practice this a day a time. When things are going bad I know what to do! When things are good- not so much. I think it has to do with surviving in an alcoholic home. I learned to deal with crisis. As a matter of fact I expected it. It seemed 'normal'. My spiritual life is a living, evolving thing for me.blankstare

Hello ginnyc-Besides for Alanon being a ODAT, there is a saying that says keep your head over your feet. If my head is in the past or future, I am missing the day/moment I have. The past is over and the future isn't here yet. If I can stay in the present, and rely on the tools Alanon has taught me (how important is it, Let go and let God, practice not perfection, etc.), I can often turn my thinking into a better place. I can turn my day around into something more positive. It's up to me, and it's something I can have control of. I can't say this works perfectly every time I try, but a good 80% of the time I can fix myself. That's way better than 0%! Keep coming back, Lyne

((((ginnyc)))))

I think we do learn that crisis is our normal... I believe it takes quite a long time to rely on "normal." But you have the key, ginnyc... ODAT, slogans, Steps.

Peace

This disease is not unlike others. When a diabetic has control over their sugar levels, they are more likely to eat sweets. When a heart patient has energy restored and tests show 'good numbers', they are more likely to exercise less and/or make different food choices. Such is the same with recovery from Alcoholism - when we find a place of peace, we tend to step away from what got us there.....

It's not uncommon to fill our lives up with 'other' when we are renewed/refreshed/feeling good. What is so easy to forget is practicing maintenance to keep us 'there'! It's taken me 30 years in recovery to see my patterns - dig deep in recovery, feel better in recovery, step back a bit - then restlessness, irritability or discontent/disconnect happen. I have finally committed to doing certain something for my recovery each/every day without fail. If I get busy in the AM, I restart my day as soon as I can. There are simple things that I can do that are not difficult every day to remind me of who I am, where I am and where I am going.

You are so not alone Ginny - I so agree! ODAT makes so much difference in my recovery today and for that, I am grateful!
