my brother "R" called me....WHAT a story he had for me!!!
He is a marine engineer and goes out on these big boats doing sea trials, etc., testing out new radar, communication and other equipment he installs on them..Its nothing for NOAA to fly him out to their big weather boats to "fix something" Even tho hes an Alcoholic, on the job hes sober and does wonderful work
well, he's been out to SEA!!! Two nearly disastrous trips....
Boat #1, was sailing along and something , I don't understand, but it was communications stuff,, broke down so they are stuck out there in the ocean while the parts are being flown out to the boat...(Musta been a very big ship to do that) anyway, the storms kept hitting them, bad , driving rains, lightening and all, but they got the thing fixed and into shore they go...He said he was so tired, he ate adn crashed for 2 days because he had to go to sea on ANOTHER boat
Boat #2, was a disaster...they are out in the ocean, (Atlantic as he is off the coast of MA) and they are checking their lobster baskets that are in the water, hooked up to some buoys and the storms start again..."R" is standing by the mast and decided to move away for a second, even he didn't know why, but he stepped away and was down by the back of the ship and all of a sudden BANG!!! BOOM!!! and this huge Lightening bolt, it the MAST!!! where he was standing....well light bulbs blew up, equipment blew up, it just destroyed all the electrical and anything electronic....GONE!!! Burnt to hell
Something hit his leg because he felt something funny on his left inner leg, where his boot top sorta is and he takes off his boot and blood squirted out 3 feet from where he was....something hit a big vein in his leg and hes gushing blood....the other seamen grabbed paper towels and DUCT tape to "patch him up" after they poured peroxide on his leg...he said his boot was full of blood....so anyway, there they are out in the middle of East butt scratch Atlantic ocean and they "sail in to shore" it takes a couple of days to get back in as they arrived today, they used the high winds to get back to shore....hes running through paper towels, but he has a nurse friend on shore, she lives nearby.. So he is now, as I write this headed to her house, she is gonna patch him up so they can go out to sea AGAIN, in 2 days...IF the Canadians are willing to pay $1 per lobster instead of $0.75 per....if they get stubborn, "R" will go out on ANOTHER boat he takes care of but the sea trip won't be so long....I just hope that his nurse friend (I know her) gives him plenty of Xtra clean, heavy bandages, peroxide and neosporine as this sounds really bad with his leg, I don't want it getting infected, and he said, talking with me , heading to her place that he was light head feeling and he said hes been guzzling orange juice, water, gator aide, anything to keep his fluids up...He told me this wound kinda scares him, and hes afraid to drink...now THAT means he got a pretty bad "owie" when hes not interested in getting plastered.........
I think he should go to hospital or at least a Dr., but he is going to go to her....She will push him to go to emergency, I think, because he is still dripping blood...Not the gusher it was a couple of days ago but still bleeding....
Imagine!!! Had he not decided to meander down to the stern part of the boat, he would have been dead...that bolt was a killer...blew up all the electrical and electronic stuff on the boat....he said hes gotta get the replacement equip and parts ordered so he can fix the damage......it will be his job to fix it so if they get stuck on shore, that boat is gonna take a while for him to restore...."R" figures the damage is at LEAST 10-15 thousand...Easy, he said...and he gets at least $100 per hour for work......but I told him he BETTER get that leg fixed....
Anyway, one found...other still missing....and I don't know where his pastor has moved to see if he knows anything...He was staying at the pastor's "shelter" for the homeless drug addicts but he broke the rules so many times, pastor had to kick him out...and I liked the pastor....
anyway, Thanks for all your prayers...I am so grateful for all of you who took time to give me some love and encouragement...I can't tell you how much it meant to me....I told him our favorite cousin Charles died last week and told him "lets take a lesson from this--I owed *chuckie* a call and I dropped the ball and didn't ..now he is gone...no more chances for me to call him..so we need to keep in touch, even if it is just a teeny text" He promised he would do better, tho I am not gonna "get on him" because it sounds like this past several weeks were drama filled for him ..Its storm season up in the NE coast...hurricanes coming at you and those awful electrical storms that used to scare me to death.....
hey A nother and Jill...thank you ladies...I was always closer to this one, tho I love them both...I as so happy to hear from him, hes exhausted from work and blood loss from this wound.....By now he should be all bandaged up and in bed, if he doesn't want trouble with me, LOL....then hes out to sea again in 2 days IF Canada meets their price for lobsters...if hes in shore, he will be fixing that blown up boat that got hit by lightening....OMG...He was at exactly where that bolt hit......for some reason, he doesn't even know because he likes to "hang out" at the mast, but for some reason , he moved away from it and went aft.....and that bolt hit and it sounded like a huge bomb.....stuff flew all over the place and something grazed his leg....he said he didn't even know he was hit for a while.............WOW!!!!! I guess it isn't his time and I am glad of that.......
(((((((((((((((((Betty)))))))))))))))))) ((((((((((((((((((David))))))))))))))))) i got the cutest text from him.....telling me loved me very very much and he was going to bed-------SOBER....yea, he has work up the "ying yang" with that blown up boat and sea trips, so I love it when he goes out to sea or is immersed in customers.......Thank you for your kind thoughts....I really was worried........lil bro. still missing :( dunno , I might pm my BIL and see if hes heard anything....
Rose, thank you for the update! Good to know your eldest sibling will be fine for now. What a load off your mind, for sure!

(((((((((((Posies))))))))))))))))) you know???? I was thinking the SAME thing...our bro. Charles was there...I swear!!! He was always hard on "R" but he loved him and looked out for him AND worshiped me, LOL...When he and I grew up, its like the roles changed...I was the mama when we were little, then he became the papa when we were older.......I'm not talking about COUSIN Charles, but our deceased BROTHER Charles who ended his life in Mar 2000...but you know, thinking about it , Cousin Charles loved all of us lil cousins and he could have been there, too, as he was very caring for us little kids , living in that hell hole, so yea, he and brother Charles probably both were there watching over "R"
OMG., that is so neat, you saying that....."R" said that bolt was the scariest thing he ever experienced....I mean they saw bolts bouncing around in the water, etc., and they were like "bracing themselves" and then BOOOM!!!!!! that thing hit the mast and would have taken out any living creature near it......and yea, I hope "L" convinces him to see Dr.....He isn't good about going to Doctors...and thank you for the prayers....and yea, big load off me..for sure...just wish, now I knew where "P" is and is he OK....but hey!!! gr8ful to get one of them back!!!!!

hey (((Bo))) and (((Aloha))) thank you both....yea, hes a bit "knackered" up but OK....I still can't get over that lightening hitting the ship....Holy crap!!! if that were me??? I would be DONE with ships and sea trials and fishing for lobsters, et al....I would be DONE!! LOL....Hes got nerves of steel....

Hey (((Jozie))) saw your post about your friend.....lucky guy to have a great friend like you....and yea, "R" had a BUNCH of angels looking after him and I am willing to bet they had to boot him in the ass to get him away from that mast ,LOL because that is like a "perch" to him when underway...he likes to hang out in that spot....and yea, "when we listen" something I have to be mindful of and work on........thanks, little friend for stopping by when you have so much on your plate....praying your Buddy can over come this and go home to his loved ones........HUGS
hey lookingup...thank you...yea, other one is MIA, but I would think if he has passed that SOMEBODY in California would contact my bro. in law and he would tell me, so I'm hoping that he is OK....I remember my now deceased sister and I talking about him, (she saw him waaay tooo much in his horrid condition) and SHE told me, that if he passes, she would consider it a release..given the condition he is in...He uses uppers, downers, meth and also is doing heroin she said (and she tries to minimize bad news) his clothing is so dirty, she couldn't hug him for fear of disease or infection.....it was awful and this "update" she gave me was b4 SHE began to really fade from her cancer...She passed in July of last year...This talk we had was around her b-day in April....I was totally saddened to hear her assessment of him based on what she SAW...she had to ban him from her home because of the filth and the horrid drug use....his mind is about as scrambled as an omelet......I just want to know where he is, but yea, knowing how honest big sister was, I would, also, consider it a release if my bro in law told me that "P" is now passed on.....Sometimes passing is a blessing..a release from their obvious hellish life.........soooo sad...
"R" asked me about him and I had to tell him hes MIA and what Janie said about him b4 her death..."R" was totally shocked that he was that bad...I told him so as to prepare him for what seems to be the inevitable......the thing that I don't want is for him to die in the street like a stray dog...hoping that if he is real bad, they take him to a hospital where they can clean him up and he leaves this world there....He can't go on using like that and the fact that hes MIA tells me that hes street surviving and drugging out big time....he gets disability and it all goes to drugs............I sorta am trying to get "R" and me to "brace ourselves" for , if it doesn't happen this year, it will be not long from now...hes in his 60's ..how much more poison can his body and mind take?????? I hate this friggin disease........

Hey ((((Jerry)))) yep. sure does, brother...so hows life treating you....that thread you started about change the behavior, then thinking changes...WOW!!! what a great thread!!! I'm practicing that an adding self talk, asking me "how important is it???" and journalling....ACTION ....for the longest time, I was told, change your thinking, change your life...well what if I don't believe yet?? what if I think it is BS, like saying I can stop beating me up, verbally when I mess up??? so now...thanks to what you taught me, I just ACT AS IF i am OK with my mistakes and i do a lot of self talk and I see shards of light......can't thank you enough for that...................gr8ful hugssss

Good news, Rose! Infections are scary things these days-I vote that your brother stays ashore and gets IV antibiotics. I hope your younger brother turns up safe real soon!
Hey RachelsMom and lookingup thank you ladies..and yea, I would love for him to "sit the next boating dance out" while he recovers but if I know him, and hes got a chance to do a sea trial (checking his equip. that he installs and maintains) AND go fishing for lobster, I know he will go....hes got nerves of steel and no clue as to how bad his leg could get if infection sets in...I'm hoping "L" the nurse friend convinces him to go to Dr., stay ashore, and work on the boats that are docked......as you say, RM...not my circus...not my monkeys......hes a big boy...old enough to know what is the right thing to do by him....
