Step 12...

Ah done it yesterday... at last...

I have bin doing Odat and C2C reading here- to get prepared... but I have booked a room- for a monthly meeting...

I have done group startin' before... with weekly meetings. Our town had 1000 people when I began Alanon 37 years ago... now it has about 4000.

But sitting in on an empty meeting week after week did not appeal. Ah kin gauge interest- with a monthly meeting.

Hoping their might be some former members around. Our town is the fastest growing in the whole of Ao-NZ.

It only takes one more member to start... and to get cracking.

My mum taught me to get right back up- when y'all git bucked off of a horse. True...

but I am prepared now to crank up our local Alanon again.

I regard this group- MIP Alanon- as my home group... but no reason why ah caint have two!!! biggrin ...

Well wishes to the new meeting :) I also have two meetings, f2f, that I equally consider my home groups. I can't seem to choose one and I'm not trying anymore :)

David, best wishes on starting a new meeting. What a gift to your growing community. I would love to hear about your progress as it moves along.

Been there and done that too David and at times the test of commitment was hardest and then it is that time when the group suddenly or otherwise blossoms that honors your commitment to recovery.  I have been thru it myself and also met former members in public who asked about the meeting and its status without volunteering to do service to it.   Not a problem our disease has many faces which we know about and keep trudging thru beckoned by HP.  When anyone anywhere reaches out for help....as you know it only takes two.  Keep coming back and I will ask HP for the miracle to progress in your aina.   ((((hugs))))aww

Oh thanks, for your encouragement, Aline, and Freetime. smile ...

I have done some advertising... I do believe in promotion through attraction...

This is NOT in the Alanon lexicon- but sometimes this works- WOMBS.

Word Of Mouth, Brothers & Sisters... coming from an old rural town- the parish pump is as good a place to start a conversation... blankstare

Some people were aghast when i said that our local group kept its books in a chocolate box, and its finances in a pickle jar. But it is ~keep it simple~.

At least there was a lot of transparency with our finances.   biggrin ...

Best to you David as you venture forward starting or restarting a group local to you! May those who need the program, help and support arrive where the light is on for them. I often forget that we come from all different places, countries, locations, etc. and that some don't have access to meetings like I do living in a metro area. I truly wish all who needed F2F meetings could find one down the street or on every corner. I know the program has given me back my life and local meetings were my first step/foundation. Keep us posted on how it's going!!

I always love hearing about a new face to face, conference approved, alanon group starting. No matter where you go, what part of the this great country, you can walk into "a room" and know what's there and just feel so great about it. I love it. Congratulations David!!! All the best!!!

Transparency in your group finances... David, I just got that after reading it a second time! Love the pickle jar. I'm treasurer for my home group, and thinking about getting a pickle jar.

smile Thanks all- for your support, and encouragement.

I have made the contacts i have needed and advertised the meeting- monthly- on the first Friday.

There are meetings in two neighbouring towns- and I took care not to clash with these.

It may come to nothing- but it may not... ...nothing ventured, nothing gained... aww ...

Hi David congrats on completing Step 12 and your efforts to begin a meeting.
i love Step 12 as it assured me that if i worked these Steps, I too would have a spiritual awakening and since I was spiritually asleep I welcomed that goal. Starting a meeting is quite an adventure-- good luck
