Good morning all and a Good Friday also. Higher Power was setting up my day for me today which I never mind cause my HP is much more imaginative and alert than I ever have been. I needed to take the van down to the dealer to get a tire problem fixed and got the alert that it would not be free so I went into my recovery program files to review what do I do when things are not going my way and after reviewing the lessons and the requirements of my attitude and behaviors I went into the waiting area and the wait would be with another member of recovery who I have not seen for a bit. He is a very nice person who I've always liked chatting with and listening to. I got the sense that HP was working my appointments for the morning as I felt the other fellow felt the same.
We held a one on one face to face meeting which for me is always great because of the memories of blessings I have been given since finally giving myself over to recovery. Recovery from alcohol and tobacco (he works in the industry) and other addictive substances and behaviors. I get reminded about what it was like, what happened(s) and how it is happening right now. Our programs are enormously powerful and when I was presented the keys to our van and got ready to come home I was feeling like I had been in a major meeting. Yes the keys came with a bill and then the outcome isn't terminal or even close to it...What I received in the waiting area as opposed to the tire bill had so much more value.
When I got home my wife met me at the van holding her copy of "Discovering Choices" our Al-Anon reader opened to Chapter Two "A Solid Foundation" and asked Have you read this part? It starts at page 23 and isn't long at all and I could not remember having read it. I had breakfast and reread that chapter 2 more times.
I have a deepening gratitude for our program and it's tools such as this literature which not only strengthen my mind but also my spirit.
Okay now what do I do? Wait I got it!! Having a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps I try to carry the message to others and practice these principles in all of my affairs. Right? ((((hugs))))....love you all...gonna keep practicing.
Jerry, how wonderful that you found a program friend at the tire repair place, and even more impressive that your wife shared the Discovering Choices chapter with you. My home group is in the process of reading that book now. Talk about carrying the message! Blessings to you both.
I am reminded by your share Jerry of all the mini miracles happening each day all around if I am present and trusting HP. Love the way your day turned out - thanks for the great share and the ESH!
