The ODAT reading for November 14, states the simple fact that we find that God is more conscious to us when we are in the depths of despair. The reading suggests that this is when we are able to say" please God help.".It then goes on to remind us that when we do receive. help we should turn to God to acknowledge our gratitude because gratitude is wholesome and healing and becomes more real when we make it a part of our daily prayers.
The reading suggests that in order to express our gratitude, we must make ourselves aware of the many blessings that come to us each day and remember to thank HP for them. Being in the present moment helps
The Quote is from the Prophet, Kahll Gibran" you pray in your distress and in your need. Would that you pray in the fullness of your joy"
Thanks to this reading and program I am very aware of gratitude and find myself walking down the street each day saying Thank you inwardly for the beauty I find When I see a small bird or animal , the smile of a child, flowers trees etc Before program I walked down the street rehearsing my anger and self pity. What a gift this program truly is!
This was a great reminder for me today. I lost my sense of wonder and gratitude while living with the effects of alcoholism, and am grateful to AlAnon to help me remember what that wondrous gratitude looks and feels like. This morning, I was greeted by the hooting of an owl as I made my way down my frosted and slippery steps. What a wonderful and uncommon gift to have an owl watching over my descent!
I hope you have a great day!

Thank you Betty for your service and the daily. Thanks to all above me for the ESH and shares. I was resistant to gratitude when I arrived as I was so broken and full of anger/sadness/despair. I had to think really hard to find things to be grateful for and they were often silly, petty. Today, that has truly turned around for me and I almost have to think really hard about what's broken in my life. I have all that I need and so much more and it has nothing to do with 'things'.
Gratitude gave me back peace of mind and joy of heart. We often discuss holding on to our serenity and for me, finding gratitude in each element of the day helps me savor my serenity and joy. I too am easily excited/joyful over small things - color of leaves, smile on my dog's face, etc.
Make it an awesome day MIP family! Thanks for being a part of my journey!

Thanks Betty for this important reading and reminder that we all have blessings if we are able to see them. I pray each morning and I start out by thanking HP for my health. I used to be so down and low that I could not feel any gratitude about anything. My sponsor got me working on a daily asset and gratitude list and I did it for so long it's taken over my brain. In dark moments I am still grateful for Alanon, family , friends , nature, etc. Thanks Alanon and HP, Lyne
Thank you for your service, Betty, and all the esh above. I often thank the program, fellowship and MIP in the evenings, but rarely my HP. I now see that he always gives me more peace when I ask and am willing to let it inside me, and that is truly something to be grateful for. I'm adding him to my daily list, where he belongs :)
