ODAT Reading 10-24-2017

ODAT Reading for 10=24-2017 speaks about the simple fact that life is difficult. .  Many admittedly go  about expecting life to be entirely  free of problems and are constantly disappointed. Alanon suggests that we use the smple  tools in order to learn  how to accept the difficult times and appreciate the good that is there as well.  The reading asks the question :Am i expecting life to be the way I want it?  (my answer before program was YES I am).  The reading suggests that if  we are constantly reaching for the moon we will miss the little surprises  that life has to offer.  The quote is very powerful.   It states:"The serenity prayer is excellent medicine for discontentment."Learning to accept life on life's terms is a huge gift of this program. The "Just For today pamphlet" really inspired me during this process.  Have a great day

Have a great day

I.had a lot of difficulty accepting life on life's terms

Now I do more.  I no longer expect people to change

That means I dont make herculean efgorts in certain relationships.

The Just.for today mantra also helps me.

When I think long term I get overwhelmed when I think short tetm it is.much more manageable.

My expectations were way off.  They often matched the alcoholuc's magical exoectations. They were all outward. My expectations are generally inward

Neverthelesd I have boundaries. I have certain expectations of situations. If they dont match I take careful note.

Yeppers...the Just For Today Pamphlet was gold for me; easy to memorize and then repeat it to myself in mantra...One of the big blessings from program literature to me and which I have shared often.   (((hugs))) smile

Good morning all - Betty...thank you for your service and the daily! Jerry, Betty and Maresie - thank you for your shares and ESH.

I am so grateful that our program is simple to understand. I readily admit that I (me, myself, I, expectations and ego) can complicate 'it' on a regular basis. I am also so grateful that we are a success as imperfect and we focus on progress and not perfection. I often still take the winding road to acceptance and that's OK - it's just part of my journey.

I do accept that life is hard. Relationships are hard. Loving is hard. These are gifts for me as before recovery, I really thought I was alone in hardship, chaos, drama and turmoil. I did arrive with a fantasy idea of what life, love, relationships should look like and felt a failure all around. I accept today that life is life and it doesn't get easier because we are in recovery. In fact, we grow, change, recover and get tools to better heal/deal but 'life' doesn't get easier.

Acceptance and Just for Today are 2 items I refer to often. They bring me back to center and calm my spirit. This reading is an awesome reminder for me that I am OK just as I am and just for today, I will be open to grow and change me.

Happy Tuesday to one and all - make it a great day!
